We have a 2 year old chocolate lab and have just bought a black lab who is now 12 weeks old. ( both girls) Had her nearly 3 weeks. They get on well but 2 year old is very boisterous and nips and bowls the pup over. Pup likes to play but every so often launches herself at the older one and nips. They both frequently squeak at each other, but no growling but lots of teeth on show (although I don't think that is in a nasty way) . On occasions the older ones seems to pin the pup down and has her mouth wide open across pups neck/face. At the minute we intervene, should we just let them get on with it or intervene in some way?
Welcome to the forum It sounds fine to me. Open mouths (even round the throat) mean play. But if you could film a play session that'd be fab
Sounds fine to me too. We had to limit play as Oban tried to escape the sharp puppy teeth and was in danger of hurting himself on furniture edges as he backed away from her. He did pin just as you describe and we let him but at her young age it made no difference to her and she was back at him for more the second he let her up. I did film one of those sessions, I wonder if I still have that clip.
Mouths wide open play is just fine. But how much you put up with is entirely up to you! Some days I let them hoolie for ages - other days not so much .
Have to agree that it sounds fine and they're just playing nicely. I normally put a stop to play sessions indoors when they start bum tucking and launching themselves off the sofa!
