Hubby keeps feeding off our plates which makes me so mad! Yesterday he gave her a bit through the serving hatch, as she was jumping up on the counter! ::)

Ah...one thing I HATED as a kid - the lab would sit a drool everytime anyone had any food. So I absolutely made it a rule that Charlie got nothing when people eat. Ever.

Until, that is, we took him to a beach cafe a couple of days ago and he jumped up and nicked a bit of breakfast toast! He had never tasted toast before - looked like he loved it. Will have to try never to allow that to be repeated...

Ah yes the drooling, my children really don't like that, working really hard on Hattie & Charlie sitting at the kitchen door so that they can still see us whilst we eat, but they try to sneak in little by little so have to keep saying "go" and they back out. It's very difficult to convince a house of sometimes 6 people to STICK to the rules - DO NOT FEED THE DOGS IN THE KITCHEN ::) seems really simple to me but ..... Helen x

Hmm...yes....engaging the male members of our household in this particular rule was rather a challenge for us too ::) ::)
At least Lilly generally doesn't drool
Difficult to enforce a rule when you are over-ruled by the OH. "she's not doing any harm".........grrrrr!!

Really odd - when we got Charlie, OH's reaction to every problem was to give him a cuddle or a treat - the trainer at puppy school had to tell him to stop picking Charlie up and giving him a cuddle everytime he looked confused! I would tend to flick through a book, looking up what we should be doing instead.

This made me comment to a friend that OH was much more "maternal" than I was, and I was surprised at this - she said "rubbish", it's always women that establish the rules, know what they do now will have consequences later. It's men that think comfort, fun and adventures are the answer...

(Sorry to all the responsible men on the forum, bringing up well behaved dogs - you are the exception of course!)

Hehe - I have seen plenty of exceptions to this.

Although most of the trainers and instructors and my dog club are women.

Slight tangent, but in the class we were in before this one there was a guy who used to take the family dog in class sometimes when his wife, the usual handler, was away for work. Our instructor never bothered to learn this guy's name and just called him by his wife's name, Karen ;D
