Yesterday my buddy (our breeder) stopped by and dropped off Molly's Official AKC papers.

If we choose to register her we need to come up with her long form official name

Some we have come up with so far

    Molly Mollykins

    Molly R Girl

    Molly Molls

    Molls

All but Molly R Girl are things we call her all the time

    Any favorites amung those?
    Any other suggestions?

    I'm leaning towards Molly Molls

You know that her call name and AKC name don't have to relate to each other at all. You might look at her parents names for a suggestion. You can also check AKC to see what names they will let you use. There can only be a limited number of duplicates in a breed.

I always thought that the breeder chose the kennel name. How exciting to be able to chose your own. Some of them are very grand sounding. If I could choose Willow's, in hindsight, it would be something like Lady Wilhelmina of Kimmerghame

We saw Riley before the breeder registered the litter with the UK Kennel Club. Because they'd only had the one litter they didn't have a Kennel Affix and we had decided on Riley so Rileys kennel name is Riley Watson(my maiden name) :D

I love that he's named as part of my family, have lots of fun choosing Mollys name!! :D

The breeder is a friend of mine (fellow Boy Scout Leader) and he and his wife were tickled that we kept her common name Molly :)

I was aware that her kennel name and common name don't have to be anything alike but she's my Molly :)

Her Dad is Derrick Ryan O'Learey and Mom is Miss Princess Peaches

AKC has a Name Check to see if what we choose is available and allowed

I kinda wanted Schnegglefritz as that's what my grandpa used to call me, but a fritz is a boy and Schnegglefrau doesn't have the same zing to me LOL

I was also thinking about something french-ish as Labrador is in Canada and my dad's family are Cajun (Acadian) desent

With the AKC the breeder registers the litter, and the owner registers the dog. Some breeders request that a particular name be used in the AKC name. For example most dogs from the Merganser line will have Merganser somewhere in the AKC name. We did not do that with Cooper. Both Tilly and Cooper are named for climbing routes on Mt Hood. Stevens Tilly Jane and Stevens Cooper Spur.

I was going to call Mabel, Princes Mabelleen of Bourbon Delight. Then I found out the breeder choose the names. There were 11 in the litter and they all have a game bird in their name. Mabel is a Ptarmigan, which is a plump game bird. Not very regal, I bet she'd be cross if she knew as she's been a right little diva today. :donttalk:

We got Northvale Messi stuck on us for our Jake. Northvale is the breeders kennel name but the breeders kids get to choose names of litters and they pick a letter. This litter was M. It seems Messi is a footballer. We all hate football. And they knew we were calling him Jake before he was born. So he is Northvale Messi but is called Jake.

My daughter is howling with laughter not knowing who THE Lionel Messi is!!!

A friend of hers has just had a litter - there were 6 of them, collies - and they are all named after Star Wars characters - Chewi, Yoda, Vader, Princess, Jedi and Jabba !! She can't remember the kennel name though (maybe just as well)

LOL, English was more commonly spoken in Labrador when I was there.

I DO like the call name to derive from the registered name and for Oban I was thinking of an explorer name, Cabot or Bjarni (Herjólfsson). However OH wanted a Scottish place name and I figured it would be Edinburgh (call Eddy) since that's where he was born. But he liked Oban.

But anyway, along the way I discovered there was a far too little known WOMAN Canadian who explored and mapped much of Labrador and maybe her story and name would be of interest to you, for a name. Or just to know about her, how many women did what she did?

    Mina Hubbard.
