Hello all Winnie arrives at the end of next week . We are very excited but know it's going to be a massive change. Maddie senses a change as the crate is up and a extra dog bed has appeared! So any final tips before she arrives? Pic below is last weekend at 9 weeks old. Thank you in advance!!
What a gorgeous looking girl! Take loads of photos and keep us posted is my tip! Seems so long ago since Lilly arrived (6 years now) you forget - other than making sure you get your sleep in the run up. And have ammonia-free cleaner Hope the other newer members can give you loads of suggestions.
Exciting!! You've got the Happy Puppy Handbook? Decide on your 'safe puppy free' place for Maddie (close to where you all are) and don't let the pup near her when she's there from day one. I found this has worked with both pups ~ Tatze dives for her chair when she's had enough, even now. The pups cottoned on from a very young age that Tatze's chair is a no-go area for them. ...
@Boogie Yes I have and have read the Happy Puppy handbook, it's great and been very useful. Thank you for the 'safe place' tip, we'll definately use that one.
And kitchen roll for mopping up all the wee Jake is now 15 weeks (where has that gone!) and hasn't had an accident for a couple of weeks but at one stage we were using the ammonia free cleaner and kitchen roll on clean up duty several times a day. Get sleep now and yes - wine, lots of it.
Thorougly puppy your garden and inside areas, and try not to be to attached to your plants We have our boy three days now and it's really hardwork but we wouldnt change it
Puppy pads are great for mopping up wee ~ put them upside down on a puddle and they soak it up and have a plastic backing for your hands while you wipe it up ...
Winnie is a little cutie,I hope the week goes fast and the trip to pick her up goes well, let her know how you get on with her settling into home x
As the others have said cleaner and kitchen roll maybe a suit of armour and a ton of patience (mainly with the OH), but just enjoy the ride - its the best I've ever had! Bailey is now coming up for 14 weeks and fingers crossed very few indoors accidents now, but I am more and more convinced he is half Lab half crocodile . Also remember if you are worried about anything come back to the forum - I have had loads of great advice, worries rationalised and seen some absolutely gorgeous photo's of puppies! Winnie looks beautiful and what an intelligent looking face too, am a bit in love with her (but don't let on to my boy! )
What a beauty! Advice - roll up and put away any rugs; tie curtains up out of the way; get ready to wear grotty old leggings for several weeks; hope for the best (i.e. she's a really easy puppy, gets on with Maddie, sleeps through the night, and is very easy to toilet train) but prepare for the worst (i.e. she's a little horror, Maddie hates her, she howls the house down the first couple of nights, and just doesn't seem to get it with the toilet training...). Really though, I'm just very jealous and want my own puppy!!! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.
Start saving chewable rubbish, like cereal boxes, big plastic bottles and the inner rolls of kitchen towel, foil etc. My pup is 20 weeks and chews everything (including me), so giving him things to demolish gives me a few minutes peace
