I've posted lots of times about the problems I've had with Nugget's non-stop biting so I thought I'd post an update. He's nearly 21 weeks now and over the past 2 to 3 days there's been a change. He's still biting, but WAY less often and with much less ferocity and intent. In situations where he would always bite - if I had to remove his front paws from the dining table, for example! - he now looks at me as if he's considering biting... then deciding not to. Time outs actually seem to bother him now - previously, he would renew his attack when I let him back into a room. Now, he doesn't. Also, the fact that this is 'play' rather than aggression seems much more obvious in his demeanour. I can't put my finger on what it is, but whereas before he could be scary, now he just seems playful (in a very rough, drawing blood kind of way lol). Evenings are still the worst, but overall the change is a positive one. And it really isn't due to anything I did - I gave up trying in the end and just went along with it, hoping it would stop! For anyone else with an overly bitey pup - for whom the regular advice simply does not work - I hope this brings a glimmer of hope. It sounds dramatic, but his behaviour was really getting me down and making me dread facing him each day. Now, I look forward to it.
Ah the boy is growing up Great post for other puppy owners struggling through the crocopup stage. It's always good to know it gets better. Super photo love the smile
@Calbury I'm so, so happy for you that finally you've turned the corner . I knew you'd get there, and it is down to your perseverance and consistency. Hoping that progress continues and the little bitey monster is soon left behind and you can go from strength to strength. Are you sure that your photo is of your bitey monster? Butter wouldn't melt in that mouth. He is lovely looking boy
What a great read, so happy for you that the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. I'm sure this will bring hope to other members facing their crocopups. He is a picture of innocence in the photo "Bite? Me? Never.."
Thank you for posting the update - it is good to know that crocopup is not a permanent member of the family! Beautiful puppy too
Ack I've just lost my reply,I was writing to say how happy it made me read about things being improved and you feel like you are coming out the other side....I had to confess to a smile at some of the descriptive language you used.....it really is like going to war in the early months isn't it! X
Thank you all for your lovely comments - thank you too for all the help you give on these forums. I would have been lost without someone to turn to! And yes, he does look innocent in this photo lol. Just shows you shouldn't judge a book by its cover
We ALL knew you would get there. It just doesn't seem like it at the time A bit like morning sickness......or babies with colic...... Totally innocent looking
Great news !! Hugo is 19 weeks and is still having frantic biting first thing on a morning he is up at 5am and when the kids first get in from school at 4pm. It is better than it was but not over yet ... I can handle the biting it's the sleep deprivation that's getting to me ! Will try and post a pic x
I use to have a nap in the day to help even though Dexter slept all night, I was still tired from looking after a puppy all day and recovering from surgery. I'd pop him in his crate and either grab a nap on the sofa, floor or my bed, putting on some calming music too.
That's really good to know! We have a 12 week old pup and he seems to be increasing his biting by the day and it hurts We have had a Lab before and he didn't do this! To be reassured that one day it will end helps a great deal. Just today he has dragged two almost new tops from the washing line-he has not done this before-stolen and chewed 3 full toilet paper rolls, taken and chewed the pegs he got from the line while pulling the off the clothes, and been impossible to control all day. Time outs do not work and even a very firm NO has no effect. It's just as well he is loved very much!
