My puppy is 13 weeks old and chewed up his first bed. Should I buy a tougher brand or leave him in the crate without one?
Some puppies just can't resist chewing everything, particularly soft fabric and stuffing. Try using vetbed, which you can buy on a roll and cut to size, or as ready-sized mats. It's not completely chew-proof but is very strong, as well as being soft. One of my dogs is a chewer, but the vetbed in her crate has remained intact!
I would also recommend vet bed. My two chewed beds when they were little but grew out of it. They did chew the vet bed, too, but it's sturdy stuff and it came away with only a couple of small holes in it.
I would use vet bed high grade none chewable. They still chew it but its not so much fun so they stop. Rory got his first bed when he was about 2 years old and he's not eaten it. I felt a bit mean but he's was fine and still preferes the carpet or when he's hot tiles to sleep on. All the dogs have got plush cosy beds but only when they get through the try my teeth on anything stage. Its less of a health risk and cheaper. Its pretty normal for a lab pup and they do grow out of it....eventually all the best to you and you pup

Sam enjoyed a chew of his bedding until he decided that humping it was much more fun , he's very passionate about his bed
No bed for us. Oban was hot anyway and I think preferred the bare aluminum floor. I'd often find him out on the kitchen floor where it did seem he was continually searching out a cool spot to lie.
Juno started with just vet bed and some dog fleecy blankets and an old jumper of mine in her crate. As she didn't chew it I added a crate mattress once the risk of accidents was over.
I found by accident that fleece is quiet difficult to chew. I got my auntie to make me a giant pillow case out of a couple of fleece blankets to fit their mattress dog bed. It didn't get chewed. Before that corners, zips etc got chewed off.
Does this have a non slip back and where can I get the high grade ones? I got my non slip Vetbed from Amazon but Dexter likes to pull the fluff out or the non stick off. It's not very dense so I'd be interested in a better quality
most fleece is good but sometimes you can get some which has a tougher backing which is good i've seen it sold as anti chew most normal fleece is fine though if you can't get the really tough you don't see it around so much now
We use a fleece with a tough backing, it as fold as a crate mattress from pets at home, she didn't bother much with thus but the vet bed she went mad at. She seems to have grown out if it though and I have just repatriated our rug with our family room.
I bought the vet bed but my dog is still jumping and chewing on it. Should I leave it or let him chew at it until he just gives up?
I'd say that's entirely up to you ! I know some people that have given up on dog beds entirely because of constant chewing , while others dogs seem to grow out of it ...
