Almost every night of late, Snowie starts to dig at midnight. He digs in a specific spot where he sleeps. I suspect he wakes up hot and digs instinctively to cool the area down.

But why at midnight? It does not matter what time we go to bed -- 9pm, 10pm, 11pm -- at midnight (or thereabouts), I'll wake up to hear him digging and need to get up to stop him digging, otherwise that's the end of the sofa!

Can anyone shed light on this behaviour, particularly happening at a specific time every night?

Sorry I can't offer any advice, how strange that it's always at the same time I'll be really interested to hear others thoughts.

Perhaps there is a particular noise at that time, something switiching on or off?

He's in the bedroom with us, and we're not hearing anything being switched on or off. He is exceptionally bomb-proof: when our own house alarm has gone off, he's remained sleeping while we've leapt out of bed! And he's not the most alert dog on the block, definitely not waiting for cats to come strolling along, for example.

I suspect it has something to do with his circadian rhythm, perhaps he heats up at that hour?
