My old 80 year old Dad has arrived for a summer visit - and is rolling around on the floor with Charlie. Both of them getting completely over excited, and Charlie is starting to nip ears. I don't have kids, but now I appreciate what all of you who are bringing up puppies and children have to cope with! But, to see them both having such good fun, I think I'll leave it a little while before I break it up...
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... Ah Julie,I bet your Dad is loving it .....especially if there were labs around when you were younger!my Dad enjoyed Dubai a whole lot more this year as there was a dog to hang out with ......I know he enjoys visiting us....but we are in no doubt who his favorite is enjoy his visit x
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... how lovely,....enjoy your dads visit .....bet charlie is loving in it
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... Yup, Dad had family dogs all his life, but now mum is gone and he is on his own, his real pleasure is travelling - and dogs don't fit with that so well so he doesn't have one. He spent the first 20 minutes saying hello to Charlie, then he remembered to say hi to me and OH. Charlie is now helping him unpack....and I get a break. Perfect...
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... Have a great time together. And you nay have to do this a few times :-X :-X
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... Oh how that warms my heart Julie, can just imagine your dad and Charlie have a great old time together. My dad adored my dogs and they him, Hattie and Charlie used to get so excited when he visited and they made much more of a fuss of Dad than anyone else. How I miss him :'( Enjoy these times and don't break it up, let the good times roll Helen xx
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... They have had a blast - BUT 2 things: I went to the weighed treat jar (should have had 50 g of treats left) and found it empty! God, Dad and OH, never going to get podgy Charlie slim! And Dad chatters constantly to Charlie - using my cue words of come, leave it, let's go - all without Charlie having to do what he is told! I said to Dad he had to stop, "imagine that Charlie only understands Portuguese" I said. " No problem" said Dad, "I learnt it in the Navy". (!!). So Dad is now chattering away to Charlie in Portuguese! However, since the most I can do in Portuguese is order a taxi (although I did suspect that I heard a "could you tell me the way to the post office" when Dad took Charlie for his wee ;D ;D), it could be double dutch for all I know. A wonderful time is being had by all - hugrandads and pups!
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... Ha ha how funny! When we brought Dexter home someone said he may not understand us at first. He was born in Blackburn About a 40 minute drive from us!
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... What a great picture that paints. I bet they are having a wonderful time. And the bonus is that Charlie will soon be fluent in Portuguese!
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... Sounds like wonderful times Julie , and maybe a little puppy break for you whilst Charlie is engrossed with his new fan ;D ;D I have a very good friend who is dogless but adores them , she pops round from time to time and also speaks to Sam in a sort of baby language and manages to get him throughly wound up , which is some feat with Sam, he doesnt get wound up that often
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy...
where are you from paigh ?
I'm from Liverpool, Lynne My Mum's the same with Dexter! He gets so overexcited and they chase after each otehr in the garden. I say I to my Mum I just need to put him in his cage to calm down and she'll be saying oh nooo don't, he's fine...then he runs into a chair :
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... I so wish I was ready with my ipad this morning - the morning greeting routine between Charlie and my Dad had to be seen to be believed. With us, Charlie gets a rub, pat and cuddle if he is being quiet and not jumping up. With my Dad, he got a total mad house, that ended in Charlie nicking a CD and getting chased! That's not being repeated . I'm so surprised at my Dad - his dogs were always well behaved. Hmm....looks like my mum might have had a lot to do with that!
Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... Heehee - your Dad's dogs no doubt were beautifully behaved, but Charlie is not his dog, he is his grand-dog ;D Therefore he can be spoiled rotten by Grandad who can walk away afterwards, leaving Mum to pick up the pieces

Re: My old dad...and my young puppy... Aww I got the same misty eyes as Helen....my dad would have loved to see Simba :'(... Sniff, sniff....enjoy your time with him and seeing the two if them together even if it's a bit crazy
