Hey everyone! Hope you've had a good Monday. Well, as good as they can be! I'm back at work today So its Karl's time to have two weeks with Dexter. I'm not jealous... Promise... I noticed last week though, Dexter when in the garden wee's an awful lot! I said to Karl I was a bit concerned he may have a water infection but thought nothing of it as he does drink a lot. But today even Karl said he'd noticed it. For Karl to be a bit concerned makes me worried. Karl calms me down an awful lot. Have I mentioned I worry? : Dexter is his normal self, running round, eating, playing with his toys. He's teething badly. But I was wondering do your Labrador's wee a lot when in the garden? Or when is a lot too much?
Re: Bladder Question... Paige do you mean frequency or volume when you say a lot? He's only little with a little bladder so if its frequency I don't think you have too much to worry about,it can feel like you are taking them out a lot in the beginning..he seems healthy otherwise by your description.thats what I think with my limited experience, lets see what other replies you get.bet it was horrible leaving him today wasn't it .....did you remember to kiss Karl before Dexter when you got home?ha ha!I used to see Chris make a visible effort to hold himself back from our Dexter to greet me first.....I didn't mind though.....there's no doubt who gets a kiss first when I come home!
Re: Bladder Question... Thanks Angela! Ha ha, this morning actually I came down after Karl and welcomed Dexter first. To which Karl was saying "Paigeeee mr first" ha ha. Well Dexter had a small accident in the kitchen this morning and Karl said his urine is clear so he's not dehydrated. It varies, some wee's may be longer than others. I think Karl said in about 45 minutes he'd done say 3 wee's in the garden? Some are long, some are short. Sorry to talk about wee! I said to Karl maybe because he's in the garden and he knows that's where the toilet is that he's just going because he can... We've never had a dog so not quite sure how often is to often :-\
Re: Bladder Question... Ok I can't comment on if that's normal,Dex was 5 months when he came to us and I used to put him out every hour ,sometimes a wee, sometimes not ,so I'd try him again in 30 mins if I didn't see any warning signs,......and he would usually go....I'm sure someone with a younger puppy will have better advice .....do not worry about talking about wee......we will be discussing your Dexters bowels before long,I can guarantee it! X
Re: Bladder Question... Hi, Well I wouldn't worry to much either, Otis wees a lot indoors and out at four and a half months. Saw the vet today to get him wormed flead and microchipped, she said he was just a slow learner about the housetraining, but he has had times when he has weed a lot. Maggiex
Re: Bladder Question... Thanks Angela and Maggie ;D Someone in work said there labrador is the same. Was just a bit worried in case his kidneys are in over drive. Will see how we go. It was Dexter's first accident in the house for about 5 days but I'm open to the fact he may still wee in the house Oh Angela! That was nearly my topic of the day on Saturday but that's back to normal now :
Re: Bladder Question... Is he fed on kibble? Charlie is on kibble and he "tanks" his water bowl and wees like a horse (sorry, but am immune to talking about all aspects of puppy wee by now). He used to wee constantly. Now, he wees just as enthusiastically, but a bit less often. If all else looks well, I wouldn't worry.
Re: Bladder Question... Yeah he's on kibble! We don't wet the kibble but he has water available all day up until about an hour before bed. I think what got me was how a puppy could drink, store and reduce so much liquid! Sounds pretty normal then. Phew! Me and Karl were watching him wee before and I commented "He doesn't look in pain" Poor Dexter probably just wanted to be able to do his business without the audience
Re: Bladder Question... They do wee (and poop) quite a lot. He is busy growing into a big dog, and that takes a lot of input which produces a lot of output. Plus his bladder control will be pretty minimal still. He just goes when the mood takes him. If his wee looks and smells normal then I wouldn't worry
Re: Bladder Question... paige you sound just like me, worry worry worry, i have never had a dog before, never even been close to one with the bad fear i had,.......i am sure dexter will be fine with karl jasper was never a big drinker, he just used to paddle in the water bowl, ......its so funny if we go any where and he needs to drink out of a strange bowl he starts to do the paddle thing mind you i am not one to drink out of other peoples cups/mugs so i guess he is like me a funny one
Re: Bladder Question... Thanks Rachael and Lynne! My mind has been put at ease. I suppose some dog's drink more than others. He's starting to fill out now. Beginning to lose baby face Dexter
Re: Bladder Question... He might be slowly becoming less puppy faced but he'll grow into a wonderfully handsome dog
Re: Bladder Question... Love all the gorgeous dogs on here,,but those golden boys .......something special
Re: Bladder Question... Well after a hot walk today, and Otis tanking up on water, Otis must have weed about six times inside ! I have to put his lead on to take him to the garden and Im just not quick enough. This toilet training is quite stressy for me, dosent bother Otis though ! Oh well I suppose I should just carry on, nothing else for it . Maggiexx
Re: Bladder Question... Awww Lynne thanks for the support, its good to know Im not alone and have peoples support, means so much, after a hard day. xx
Re: Bladder Question... maggie - i wonder if this might help... I was trying to get Charlie to stop weeing on my plants and to go in a certain part of the garden - lots of problems with this! I massively upped his rewards for going in the right place by a factor of six! you could try stuffing Otis with chicken for going outside?
Re: Bladder Question... I was wondering if he would respond to the weeing on puppy pads then slowly moving them out the door technique??
