My 4 month old chocolate has a limp when he gets up from resting. The limp goes away pretty quickly and he is back to running and jumping. He only limps after he has a day of lots of activity. After a few days the limping when he gets up goes away.

His right rear seems to be the only side affected.

Any thoughts on what it is?

Vet said his gait seems good.

First port of call would be the vet for me which clearly you've done. Did he/she recommend any treatment or management?

It could be any number of things and it's probably not terribly helpful to speculate. Suffice to say we've all seen mysterious limps in our dogs at various ages that mostly prove to be nothing but are nevertheless worrying. Don't be afraid to go back to your vet if you have any worries. Serious issues need prompt and proper treatment so personally I err on the side of caution. If you can capture some video of the limp it may help your vet.

Hello there, I'd get this investigated, it's not normal for a dog to be stiff or limp after resting - stiffness after resting that then wears off could indicate the start of some kind of arthritic change due to a problem with a knee or hip.

I had a similar issue with my dog (but on his front leg so not the same as your dog) and the vet kept saying he was fine because by the time I go to the vet my dog had stopped limping. In the end I videoed it for a week, stuck all the clips together that showed a limp, and sent it to my vet. Then my vet took it much more seriously and came up with a treatment plan, that seems to have sorted it out.

I don't blame my vet, he wasn't going to treat something he couldn't see, and he is a very good vet. But by not waiting until things were so bad my dog limped when he was at the vet's I got early treatment for my dog, which can only be a good thing.

He went to the trainer yesterday. The trainer is going to keep a close eye on him and let me know if he notices anything out of the ordinary since he will be there for 3 months.

As of now the trainer said he is loving it out there and the water with no signs of slowing down.
