Hello everyone just a quick question as I am totally going insane here. Most know I built McQueen an outdoor open top crate when he was little younger to prevent him from demolishing the place when unsupervised and outside. Well, guess what after an ordeal with a bird tease he has now figured out he can actually jump the side and get out. In turn, I now have a McQueen running around demolishing everything within his reach. He even tried to open his food container, fortunately chewing up the measurement cup only. This was my peace of mind. Any ideas on how to steady him from the jumping tantrums he is now accustomed to or at least a preventer extension to increase it's height? Labrina
Re: Escaping the huge outdoor crate I have no idea how to solve that problem, but suffice to say Labs can jump very high if they want to and are also great escape artists - again if they put their minds to it. ;D
Re: Escaping the huge outdoor crate Well, I got around him untying the boat rope I locked the door with by altering my knot...now this ! *pouts* Also he has literally pot holed every angle and corner of it of late....which mind you, I keep filling but miraculously gets dug out again within seconds.
Re: Escaping the huge outdoor crate My parents keep hens Labrina and their hen run looks almost the same, not so long ago a fox got in and killed all 5 hens .....dad has put a really strong roof on it made out of the same mesh as the sides......,would that be a solution? They are away at the moment or I would have asked Mum to send me a photo x
Re: Escaping the huge outdoor crate Double the height of the fence and he won't get out. To stop him digging at the corners you can lay down some mesh and peg it down along the ground at the base of the fenceline. Angela, sorry to hear about your parents' chooks
Re: Escaping the huge outdoor crate Thanks Rachael,it was sad....the fox just bit them all on the neck and killed them, didnt eat them or carry them off,a real waste.Mum and Dad live in the suburbs of a city so they are urban foxes that scavenge and are definitely not hungry........a neighbor told them that there were once 3 cubs on the lawn playing with Derry's toys.....mad!
Re: Escaping the huge outdoor crate We always reckon about 8' for a dog run. The labs probably would not go over 6, but cockers are a whole different ball game. ;D
Re: Escaping the huge outdoor crate hehe...yes Rachel let's hope this one lasts a little longer than the other..I very much doubt he will be able to jump that high ...but ...he never siezes to amaze me. Especiall when he reaches up...I freeze. Fresh beach sand undercoated with small pebble to prevent muddy winters...cross your fingers.. Labrina
Re: Escaping the huge outdoor crate Fingers crossed he doesnt work out how to squeeeeeeze through that little hole above the gate... After all, his name is McQueen, he must know all about The Great Escape...
Re: Escaping the huge outdoor crate hehe thank you everyone, and Karen I left that there for a reason. He like to get up there and watch. Now, if indeed if he figures out how to get up and over it..all I have to do is add another piece I have saved. Doubtful he would fit though...Here's to hoping...
Re: Escaping the huge outdoor crate I just went into a frenzy of laughter reading this old post...For those of you about at that stage of McQueens adventures...note the dog house is no longer valid as he at it...and when I mean ate it I mean ...not a piece left!
