So... Eric has managed to get a whole loaf of chilli bread and downed it in one!

    What effects should I expect?

I can't believe he hasn't had an upset tummy yet... we're still waiting lol

he has been sick after drinking a lot of water, but this is something that started earlier this week (something else to keep an eye on!)

But so far the other end is normal :p

It sounds as if Eric, and you, have survived the chili bread. I would think that if it was going to have an adverse effect ;) it would have been 'experienced' by now :) Memo to self, keep chili bread safely out of Eric's reach :D

Forgot to mention that bit :( Is he being sick after exercise, playing etc when he's not and thirsty or just when he's had a drink. Might be worth keeping the water in his bowl at a lower level so he can gulp so much down, then waiting a short time after he's had a drink and offering some more fresh water. Sometimes they just take on too much water too quickly, which causes some reaction, just like a person who is very thirsty/dehydrated is advised to drink small amounts and slowly.

@MaccieD he started throwing on Monday morning.
It was a very hot day Sunday and he def got too warm.

Monday he got up, had a wee then out for a walk as usual. A few pieces of kibble as treats. Home, drink, and promptly threw up. Could see the clear water. Then ate his breakfast!

He did this every morning. Mentioned it to vet Wednesday who said it was probably the heat combined with greedy water gulping. Have been giving him less water at frequent intervals and Friday Saturday no sick.

Today though he was. He was also sick after his breakfast but he had followed breakfast with a gulpy drink. He then re-ate his breakfast!

The bread is also now coming out the other end. Nothing too disastrous but a choice colour!!

@jools, sorry but I just had to laugh that the bread has started to re-emerge, and no I really don't want to know what colour it is :D and too much info on todays breakfast :D

Good to know that the vet wasn't bothered about the throwing up of the water though and I think today's episode does suggest that it is to do with volume and speed. It never ceases to amaze me sometimes how quickly a Lab can drink a bowl of water. With Juno sometimes it's as if she was hoovering it up ;) All you can do is try and slow him down and have less available at a time. Just a thought is his bowl one of the big broad styles or a deep style. Just wondering if a smaller diameter deep bowl would slow down his drinking .....

    @MaccieD sorry lol
It's a small bowl that us attached to the inside of his crate. Thought I might look for one of the slow bowls that only let water up as they drink. Not a good description but I know what I mean lol

@SteffiS it was a red chilli bread.....

@jools it's worth trying another type of bowl to see if it makes a difference. If it keeps happening though I think I would have another word with the vet just as a sanity check that there's nothing wrong and it is normal :)

@MaccieD i will definitely be asking vet again if it continues. It only happens on a morning after his walk so exercise is involved.

He's just had his dinner and drank probably the same amount of water in the same way and he's fine. But he hasn't had a walk for a couple of hours.

@jools that sounds quite strange as it's only after walks but before he's eaten any breakfast. I wonder if it's anything to do with having an empty stomach and a volume of cold water as the weather is warmer.

he has been fine that the last 2 mornings @MaccieD after his walks.
Hopefully it has had something to do with the heat and now its a bit cooler he is better
not sure what caused it but at least he seems back on top form... back to normal nutter boy lol

@jools good to hear that Eric has been better the last couple of days. Sounds like a warm weather, hot after exercise, cold drink reaction. Something to keep in mind for other warm days
