Charlie is 11 months old and has shed once earlier and it was just for a few weeks and then normal. But this time its been almost 2 months and he still is shedding a great amount of hair. I comb him every other day but still there's hair every where in the house. He is eating Royal canine labrador junior twice a day. His coat otherwise is shiny and normal. Is something wrong that his shedding is still on or should i need to give him some meds for it??
When Arthur sheds a lot I use the Furminator on him once a week it removes the loose hair, other times the normal brush.
Ohh so you mean shedding for almost 2 months is normal and it will ease down a bit slowly and gradually??
Yes, its the moulting season for Labs. Wherever they go they leave a few hairs behind. Whatever clothes you wear will be adorned by a thin layer of hairs before you leave the house. Open a door and the breeze blows a tumbleweed across the floor. A good brush every few days can help, but the best advice is just to accept it. After out first Lab I gave up trying to be house proud or well dressed. Its the price we pay for all the fun they bring into our lives.
I groom my two every day - and put the fur out in a box for the birds, the blue tits are flying off with huge beakfulls! (I use a zoom groom and a comb) .
Tatze sheds all year round and more in the Spring. But it's as nothing to the pups - they are half GR and shed for England. Their fur is much softer and less waterproof than a Labs too. When they've both been in water Tatze is nearly dry, Twiglet needs a really good towelling down. .
Well put... I'd forgotten how much dogs can moult, and, never having had full labs before, I hadn't realised the extent! We've had shedding since they arrived in Feb, but nothing too bad until the past few weeks. I have a lot of light colours in my house, so it's liberally covered in a layer of black fur! I groom every day now and it's amazing how much comes out. Wouldn't change it for anything!
We have wood floors so Juno's fur blends in quite nicely well at least better than it did on our light ceramic floors in France
you have to match your clothes house soft funishing sofas and carpets to the colour for your dog and use a dyson every day.... on yourself and the house.
... And if you are getting a puppy as a second dog, if possible, stick to two dogs of the same colour. I speak from bitter experience... (sorry @JulieT ...)
As near as I can see, Labs shed 2x per year, each one lasts 6 months. I keep expecting to find a bald dog some day, but it never happens.
I know exactly what you mean! Every day I groom handsful of hair from the girls.. wonder where it's all coming from!
I was away for a week for work. Forgot how normal people get dressed: they just get dressed and walk out the door. They don't have to consider the implications of wearing a second coat of dog hair.
