First season.....

...or maybe something else.

Yesterday my son came inside with some blood on his hand and he said he had been playing with Luna, no injuries to either of them. Mystery and I thought nothing of it.

Today I have just dried her off on some pale towels after being in the fields and there are spots of blood on them. I can't see any cuts on her from a quick look and she is ok in herself, not limping or anything.

She is 22 weeks, I was not expecting it yet, but could it be her first season?

We went for a walk this morning and A male dog was interned In Her but I didn't think it was anything more than socialising with a friendly pup.

 

I have no real idea as my dog experience comes from Dexter my first dog who is a boy....I'm trying to think and have never heard anyone talk of a season so young but I could be completely wrong and others will be along with better knowledge. Could it be her teeth? Especially with it being on your sons hand if they were playing and she was mouthing? I noticed blood on Dexter's chew toys when he was around that age...

 

We experienced something like this around the same age (though only a bit of dried blood at the vulva). It is rare to have a heat this early, but not unheard of. Try using some damp paper towel and pressing it on her vulva - if it comes away pink or bloody then it may be her first season. We went to the vet to double check anyway (she was not in heat - may have gotten bumped at the park or something, we don't know).

 

Great, I will try that thanks. I might drop Into the vets if there is anymore and get her checked.

 

Could be teeth, we had one of her baby teeth fall out last week, the kids were all asking if dogs have a tooth fairy

 

A couple of weeks ago, we were at an off leash area, and a pit and a couple of labradoodles were playing with Cooper, chasing balls etc. I noticed a splash of red on the pits flank, and after a few moments noticed numerous spots of red on the two doodles. Then I saw that Cooper was dripping blood from her mouth. She apparently bit her tongue and managed to get all of the other dogs a little. It did not seem to bother her at all, and she quit bleeding in a couple of minutes.

 

I managed to get her to say "ahhhhhhhh" earlier so I could check her teeth and there is some blood where, I think, an adult tooth is coming through. So potentially that was what it was.

No blood when I wiped her again with the towel.
