My pup is a little over 5 months and is definitely teething (been finding a couple around the house). This past week his stool has been extremely soft at times, but goes back to normal within a few poops. I finally took him to the vet this morning, they did a parasite check and will let me know the results tomorrow.

I forgot to ask them, but could his soft stool be a result of his teething? He acts fine and eats fine. He hasn't had anything to eat that is out of the ordinary (food and training treats). He isn't outside by himself, so I know he isn't finding and eating things in the yard. The vet did a stool sample today and it actually seemed like it made it worse. We went out for a couple of hours and came home to very soft stool in his crate. I felt so bad because this is the first accident he's had since he was first brought home at 8 weeks.:(

Don't worry about the odd accident :) It's impossible to be vigilant 100% of the time. Don't feel bad, he'll be ok.

Often, soft stools can be the result of too much food. Do you think he needs his food cutting down a bit, or maybe divided into smaller meals? Have you recently moved to giving larger meals?

Thank you, I never thought of too much food. He is now eating 2x a day instead of 3. Maybe I'll try to change it back to 3x and see if that helps.

That could be the reason then - meals that are on the large side pass through the system more quickly. Hopefully a switch back to 3 x smaller meals helps :)
