I got back from a visit to the UK yesterday, and in the afternoon took Poppy for a walk with the other half. She was having a lovely time until around half way round, when she came running up to us, shivering, tail between her legs, looking distressed and worried. We couldnt find anything wrong with her, so continued on. After a few hundred yards, she sat down and wouldnt follow us until we called her quite firmly - this happened two more times before we got home. Just as we got towards the house, it started to rain and a thunderstorm started. She was not at all bothered by the thunder or the lightning. Do you think it could have been the change in pressure or the static in the air that was upsetting her? Remember she is a sensitive little soul... : We couldnt find anything that could be hurting her, no wasp stings or similar. She was fine once we got home, and is completely back to normal today.
Re: Odd behaviour on walk Poor Poppy, maybe she saw something unpleasant to her that you couldn't see. Glad she is back to normal. Helen x
Re: Odd behaviour on walk Hmmm......headless horsemen....wailing fisherwives..... Not being flippant, honest - kind of gave me the willies reading this and Helen's reply though. I guess we don't really have any idea what they sense (Life of Dogs again...)
Re: Odd behaviour on walk Ah bless her, something had obviously spooked her.....can they sense a storm coming?
Re: Odd behaviour on walk My friends were round yesterday andnshensadi to google dogs seeing ghosts if I wanted to totally freak myself out.....I don't,so I didn't!!! ;D
Re: Odd behaviour on walk They can definitely sense a storm coming - the change in air pressure, likely. Not sure if that was what set Poppy off here, though - especially since the storm itself didn't seem to bother her. Ha ha btw my iPad spellchecked her name to Poopy - good thing I caught that before I sent!!
Re: Odd behaviour on walk I think dogs can sense ghosts...or 'beings' or whatever. A friend's dog would follow a member of her family around constantly staring up at just above her shoulder, tilting his head. Not freaked out, just looking. Kind of compassionate. That person had previously lost a child. Now I'm not one for all that spooky stuff, but that I saw with my own eyes and it was quite something.
Re: Odd behaviour on walk No ghosts in our woods. ;D Maybe she got bitten by a horsefly or something. But she is a sensitive little soul, and I still think it was the change in air pressure that made her nervous...
Re: Odd behaviour on walk I bet she could hear the thunder way before humans - maybe she thought "Come on, we should be heading home for shelter, can't you hear the storm coming? You humans - deaf or what?".
