Puzzle had just eaten her food when i noticed that her lip was very swollen, i took her outside so she could go for a wee and poo, then she regurgitated her food, i have had a look at her lip but there is nothing obvious like a puncture wound, it is either should could have been stung by something or barley has bitten her as he did growl at her this morning and she yelped but i don't know if he managed to get her or not. If we take her to the vets now the bill will be huge as it is a bank holiday monday so it would be an emergency call out fee. She also keep shaking her head and pawing at her eyes and her eyes are weeping. Is there anything i can give her to reduce the swelling like anti histamines or will it subside by itself or it a vet visit needed.
Re: swollen Lip Thats a bit of a worry - it sounds like an allergy though, doesn't it. I know its ok to give dogs piriton but not sure how much. I would say 1/2 normal tablet and repeat 2-4 hours if needed but thats a bit of a guess and under rather than over-dosing I think. If you have some piriton is it worth just CALLING the vet for advice rather than a visit? I suppose depends on how he is in himself too.
Re: swollen Lip Well i know you can give dogs pirition as barley is on that for his allergies, but the does was given to use for him to have 1 tablet 3 times a day. She seems very down and unhappy in herself, not like a normal puppy, she just wants to sleep and is too lathargic not like her normal self at all. It is very worrying :-\
Re: swollen Lip I think if I were you I would be phoning the vet Mine are usually happy to offer advice, but if she is not herself, better to call I would have thought.
Re: swollen Lip Same here , any change of behviour in a puppy warrants a call to the Vet, hope all is well x
Re: swollen Lip We called the emergency vet and they said to put some ice on it and observe her very closely for the next few hours and if the swelling gets any bigger or she is starts struggling to breath bring her in. So we put some ice on her lip, which is very difficult with a wriggling squirming puppy, but we managed to keep her still for 5 mins or so. The swelling went down, her lip is still a little swollen but it has gone down a lot, so we will go to our normal vets tommorow if it has not completely cleared overnight. She is back to her normal self now, a happy wriggly little puppy
Re: swollen Lip very relived, we don't want any unexpected vet visits this soon, and hopefully none at all, make a difference from barley as he is down the vets almost every month
Re: swollen Lip She is much better this morning, the swelling has completely gone, and she is back to her normal mischievous self, destroying her bed and pestering barley to play with her, he is not amused to say the least. He is not a morning dog
Re: swollen Lip Great it's resolved....no going so great my side of the world today but ill start another thread....
Re: swollen Lip Glad that she is ok now Always such a worry when odd things like this suddenly happen....
