I am going to my mums house tomorrow, its an hours drive away from here. On country roads and the motorway. I want to take puppy but don't think my nerves will cope with the drive, two kids and the puppy. But means poor thing will be on her own for a long while. :'(. Wish I wasn't such a wimp!

Hi Jade, I am sure you are not a wimp at all. An idea is to walk Amy before you leave that way she will settle better in the car which is only an hour, and as for the kids, plenty of things to do. I used to give mine a bag each with books, colouring etc. in to keep them occupied on any journey. Go on give it a go, you don't know you can't cope with it until you try :) Helen x

She is ok in the car, a upset tummy sometimes but I will stop and let her out once we off the motorway I did expect to take her everywhere with me but its been so much harderhaving her than I expected. On a totally on a different note we came a cross another yellow 14 week old lab puppy on our walk yesterday. We didn't get to say hello as it was on the other side of the road and a few people in line to say hello. hope we see it again soon. ;D

Charlie was a right pain in the car for ages, then we had to do a 4 hour trip, no choice. Lined up the kongs, and his first was a special, with egg and chicken (I hadn't given him kongs in the car before as had only done very short trips). He got stuck into his kong, finished it, looked around and went to sleep. Not a problem with him since. Food! Always the answer with my boy...

I have told the boys (and hubby) not to talk to her and she is quiet with them in too. She was always good with me but could hear them chatting away to her as so wanted them. Might give it ago......

Well, we made it. We had to stop for a clean up as she was poorly as soon as we got to the country road. Now she busy destroying a non puppy proof house. She has had socks, three shoes, and a baby photo of my dad.

Well done Jade! I wonder if there is a product that might ease a poorly dog tum on a car journey? or she just might grow out of it.

Previous dog used to get an upset tum in the car as a pup but he grew out of it, so maybe yours will too. I know there is a Gravol type med that you can give dogs for travel sickness but I wouldn't go that route until she's had more experience in the vehicle.

    Thank you every body.

We are home now. I left before she got herself over excited which she was getting close too. We took her to my grandmas grave (mum cant drive so can only go when we visit). Its a local tourist stop so lots of people and cars around. She was very bad pulling on the lead (as expected) but wasn't nervous like she has been in the past. she was sitting when asked and i did a few sit/ stays with her too. mum said to try a choke chain. :p

On the journey home i stopped at a lovely stream and had a walk about with her and the boys. Until the youngest decided he needed the toilet ::) he refused to use the bushes so we had to leave. She was poorly again and it was just after a bit that is lots of hill and corners so I will have to take it even slower next time! She came in and went straight into her bed, probably feeling abit ill and she will be tired after an exciting morning!
