The face-pulling and teeth chattering is a Flehmen response - they are directing the scent to their vomeronasal organ. I've seen it cats more often.

Snowie is intact and licks other dogs' urine off the pavement and lampposts, grass, etc. I don't find it disgusting at all, I must confess; it looks like a very normal dog thing to do. I would never consider this an "issue" that would require neutering. My vet said her dog licks the pavement, too.

After Snowie has licked the urine, he marks over it! I wonder if he's not only smelling it intensely (by tasting it) but also trying to get rid of it and then marking over it?

I've never noticed the teeth chattering, but he does sometimes become very intense when he's tasting, little licks, thoughts whirring around in his head (it seems!), lots of processing (who know's what?!), then up with his leg and marks the area before moving on. It's all part of our normal walking routine. Some days he does more licking, other days not (perhaps no interesting urine was around that day).

We call it "checking p-mail" (sniffing, licking) and "sending p-mail" (marking). :D

Its definitely gotta be normal hasnt it :) ive just never seen a dog do it before, so was kinda curious if Champ was the only one. Champ marks over where he has licked too.

Brilliant I love that!! "checking the p-mail and sending p-mail" :D

Haha uh oh the slightest thing can make them go funny, we pushed the sofa back a foot to give champ more space and he didn't like it. They can be so funny. I learnt bits and pieces doing my diploma, but I suppose all dogs of all breeds have their own character :)
