    Hi all,

We have a 5 month old chocolate lab, who most of the time is fantastic, but there is one thing he does that bothers me quite a bit - when he gets over excited, he jumps up and bites at me very aggressively and snarls really loudly. I know it's not an aggression thing, it's just over excitement, but I'd love some tips on how to calm him down when he gets like this (he only does it to me, not even my husband or anyone else). I know a lot of puppies do this and it's pretty normal, but when he's breaking skin and ripping holes in all of my clothes, it gets a bit much, and quite scary at times.

The things I've tried (and had no success with) when he does this are:
    - Giving him a toy to play with instead of biting me
    - talking calmly but firmly with him
    - putting him away for a few minutes, but he just continues doing it when he comes back out

Is there anything else that would be reccommended to helo this? It's actually quite scary when he does it, and I want to work out a way to stop it or at least calm it down a little. We're both new to lab puppies, so any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Sorry, I should also mention that this is different to the times when he tears around the room bumping into everything, this does come across more aggressive, though I'm sure he doesn't mean it to be that way.

One other thing I have tried is turning away from him or walking away, but he continues jumping, biting and growling at my back/legs.

Millie is 6 months and she gets very mouthy and jumpy when she is overtired, just like a baby.. I usually say nap time and put her in crate. When she just mouth me a lot and keep on putting her head in my knee, well that means she need to poop.
And if she's starting to nibble and won't give in, I give her timeouts in the crate. I don't talk to her because I don't want her to give her the attention she wants. I usually time her 3 minutes or until she settles down a bit and let her out, still without talking then I usually sit down in sofa. If she continues I repeat , she gets it quicker now and we have fewer episodes of this.

Bailey is 6 months old and he also does the jumping and biting but with barking and its at my OH rather than at me. He used to do it to both of us, I kept consistent and would turn away each time he did this or removed myself from the room (found this more effective than putting him in time out). He will still mouth me but in a much gentler way.

This always proceeds a case of the zoomies (running around like a whirling dervish, bumping into everything, tail between his legs, ears back), he then runs out of steam, stands looking at us then jumps on the sofa, gets comfy and immediately starts snoring!

If only my OH would listen to me about how to deal with the jumping and biting I am sure Bailey would calm down with him too .
