So many questions on the main site each day from people feeding puppies on terrible diets or trying to raise tiny pups that should still be with Mum. I have posted a new page specifically for visitors overseas and want it to be welcoming as well as addressing their specific problems. Not sure if I have achieved both, but would welcome feedback from folks here Pippa
Re: Information for overseas visitors to The Labrador Site - your thoughts? I can see your frustration coming across here Pippa. It must be so hard to answer all these questions you have. There are so many resources on the site to look at, but I guess there is always the search for the "quick answer" or "quick fix". And we have all had a tiny little bit of experience in dealing with the sort of hard work you have had to to face. Its shocking that puppies are passed on as young as 3 or 4 weeks I think the page looks pretty good, and hope it helps.
Re: Information for overseas visitors to The Labrador Site - your thoughts? I think its a page badly needed but sadly the majority of those who should read it, wont read it . Having said this , if it helps one potential owner to re think taking a tiny puppy, or re think diet , then its one less to suffer
Re: Information for overseas visitors to The Labrador Site - your thoughts? i think its fantastic pippa,.....you always cover everything you do a brilliant job, thank you so much for the site
Re: Information for overseas visitors to The Labrador Site - your thoughts? It's very good now let's hope they read it!
Re: Information for overseas visitors to The Labrador Site - your thoughts? Good luck with that, Pippa. It's a great article, and covers most of the questions that are likely to be asked. But I suspect you will continue to get the same questions as before, because it seems that many people just are not prepared to take the time to look for the answers themselves... After all, if they did so, they wouldnt have bought a four-week-old puppy in the first place, or be trying to feed it a vegetarian diet... I take my hat off to you for all that you do for dogs around the world.
Re: Information for overseas visitors to The Labrador Site - your thoughts? Keep going Pippa, even if some people listen that's less puppies suffering. This article shows just how much you care about dogs. Thank you for posting this article. Helen x
Re: Information for overseas visitors to The Labrador Site - your thoughts? Really good article. I think that it's really clear and covers all the key welfare points. Boy, it must take a lot of dedication to sift through and manage all those questions... And alot of them depressing too. Hopefully, now that this article is written, you can point to it in response to relevant enquiries. Maybe it will make the task a little easier...hopefully.
Re: Information for overseas visitors to The Labrador Site - your thoughts? It's really well, written and thought out Pippa....living in the multi cultural city of Dubai I meet a lot of different nationalities with a LOT of different views on dogs and their care ....as Rachael says some of it is very depressing .....one of the biggest problems I see in my dog interactions here is understanding the need for patience, persistence and consistency.Ive had a few conversations with people who just give up because the dog's behavior hasn't changed in a couple of practices .....the dogs are just ' naughty' It's a great central resource to direct people to (I spread the Labrador/gundog site word in the outside spaces of Dubai...regardless of the breed of dog ) It WILL make a difference and its a great idea . Best regards Angela
Re: Information for overseas visitors to The Labrador Site - your thoughts? Great job, honestly you are a star doing this. I had no idea about these practices abroad - how awful for you fielding these it must be frustrating sometimes. But they are looking at the site so it's fantastic that the information is there for people to read. Hopefully it will make a difference. Thank you xx
Re: Information for overseas visitors to The Labrador Site - your thoughts? Thanks everyone for your kind and thoughtful comments. Very heartening ;D Angela, I find it very interesting to read your experiences from Dubai. I am not well travelled and whilst I appreciate issues of poverty and resources, it has been a real eye-opener for me, the way Labradors are raised and treated in some other countries. I am also quite surprised at the popularity of Labradors in Asia. Jaq is right, I do find it frustrating fielding some of these questions, but on the other hand, I don't want to be dismissive, or 'patronising' or drive people away, as there seems to be a dearth of regional information on so many topics that we just take for granted here. Thanks again, Pippa
