My Alice gave me huge fright this evening. Whilst she was eating her dinner all of a sudden blood started to gush out of her nose and mouth. And I mean gush! It looked like proper arterial bleeding! I had a quick check inside her mouth but couldn't see anything so I scooped her up put her in the car and made a dash for the vets. The vet decided to knock her out and do an endoscopy. 20 minutes later he emerged triumphantly with the cause of Alice's troubles. A very long and very tough blade of marsh grass had lodged itself inside her nose and throat but luckily the vet managed to pull it out in one piece. Alice is now fast asleep, she was quite wobbly on her little legs earlier on but ok. Here is the troublesome blade of grass.
Re: Alice in trouble Good grief Heidrun that must have been very scary indeed, I am so glad that Alice is OK. Who would think a blad of grass. Have a restful night and hope she will be back to full on Spaniel activity tomorrow. Helen x

Re: Alice in trouble Oh Heidrun,what a fright,a blade of glass can be like a piece of glass if it whips your leg the wrong way....must have been really uncomfortable for her,clever vet getting it all out in one go..... Hope she's bounced back ok today and you've got over the shock Easy day to you all today x

She does eat grass like all of my dogs but it most probably happened whilst she was hunting through the grass at 100mph.
Re: Alice in trouble Aw, this is awful. I do hope she's feeling better this morning. Blades of grass are like blades of metal sometimes. The fact that you acted so quickly has stopped this being even more serious, well done you. And it can't have aged you more than 8 - 10 years probably? They don't make life boring, that's for sure do they.
