Charlie came home on a Royal Canin puppy food, which was fine, but then later he developed an intolerance to chicken and a bit of a sensitive tum (he was on anti-inflammatories for a while after some surgery he needed). He's on a Royal Canin sensitivity control food now.

Betsy came home on a bizarre mix of a vat free 'sporting breed' puppy kibble (which I thought terrible) and raw meat. I switched her over to Orijen large breed puppy food over 3 days. She had slightly loose poo for a bit, but it was ok.

I don't believe that a high protein food is inappropriate for a puppy - if you do a good search, you'll find quite recent research that shows high protein food is fine. Orijen is high protein because it's mainly meat. If you don't want to feed high protein, you have to feed high fat or high carbohydrate, and there is lots more evidence that is inappropriate.

The only thing about Orijen large breed puppy is that it doesn't quite meet the latest standards for calcium/phosphorous recommended for large breeds, although it meets it for puppies in general. Since the calcium/phosphorous ratio for large breeds was based on research for breeds much larger than Labradors, which really are medium to large dogs, I'm ok with this.

Thank you for the comments re protein percentage, that's very helpful. It does make sense to remember that raw diet is mainly protein. My main concern about Beta was that it's so high in carbohydrates especially grains. I can't have the puppy on a raw diet because of having still small children and our lifestyle would not cope with it but I would want to feed him food which has high percentage meat and quality ingredients. It's all new to me, lots to learn and think about. So grateful for the comments and the wisdom and experience shared on this forum! Can't wait to bring our pup home and introduce him to you all! 6 days to go!

Currency converter tells me I paid £93 for 13kg. Everything's more expensive down here.

It really good that you are researching before collecting your pup. Every pup/dog is different and even though you decide on a brand, it may not suit them. We tried several different foods over a period of several months until we found out she was wheat intolerant. I would buy a small bag and she how you get in before purchasing big bags.
