    Good Morning All,

Charlie had his first Jab last Thursday & is due his second on the 12th.

I've been chatting to a few people about when I can take Charlie out & about. Very mixed answers I have to be honest: Some say wait until both, some say a couple of days after his second jab.
Allot of people have said halfway mark & i even had someone say just go for it ??? What's your opinions & what did you do? If it's a case of stopping him from mixing with animals then i can do that but obviously I don't want to jump the gun.

    Cheers in advance

I have an appalling memory but I think our vet said a week after his second jab (or in Lilly's case, 3rd ::) )
I think its safe to have him meet other dogs that ARE fully vaccinated right away though, so as long as its in a "safe place" e.g vaccinated dogs enclosed garden or your house/garden rather than a park or where other dogs or wild animals may have been.
And....dust off that back-pack, pop him in with a couple of towels underneath, and get sharing!
More people and experiences the better I believe.

Hopefully someone will come along to confirm all that, or pick me up if I have got that wrong at all (hope not!)

I don't know whether it depends on the brand of vaccine used?

At the second jab, my vet looked me in the eye and said, very firmly, "his feet don't touch the ground outside for another week. right?". That might be because the vet had worries about viruses in the local urban fox population - I mean, risk factors and appetite for risk, will play a part in people's opinions too.

I took him to puppy school after jab 1, with a note from the vet to say he appeared healthy, with a mix of vaccinated and first jab only puppies - I think I was taking a risk in that though.

Thanks guys...like the idea of the rucksack idea as I'm gagging for a pint & i've got no one to puppy sit ;) Sunday afternoon off & stuck indoors but then hey I have my pup for company ;D

I had a look on google and trolled through a few posts and the general consensus is not until his second jab. Got a couple of dogs around that i know are fully vaccinated so i will
    give them a shout.

So another countdown begins ;D ;D Thanks again

I'd say take him out and about with you as much as possible for socialization, but keep him away from areas where other dogs have toileted. I too think it is ok to let your puppy have contact with dogs that you absolutely know have been vaccinated, and that are 'puppy safe'. Have fun at the pub! :)

We had mixed views on this subject as well, one vet said 2 weeks the other said one, so we are going to go in the middle of that and do it at 1 1/2 weeks. She has already been out to see my uncle's dogs who are fully vaccinated and last week she went to our agility class just for socialization, she was held all the time but could see the other dogs and hear them barking and got lots of cuddles from people as well, she has been to 2 pets shops as well being held all the time just for 1) the experience of travelling in the car and 2) the experience of different sighs, sounds and smells

    Good Morning All,

Well the pub was a success. Charlie loved the attention & being passed from one person to th other. I took him into the beer garden where he sat on the table watching the world go by.
Absolutely fascinated by all the traffic, people & dogs ;D

The question was posed in the pub about Jabs & again they all had different answers!! Quite interesting but I will wait i think until he has is second before mixing with dogs that i don't know. As for socialising I will carry on with carrying him. The rucksack is the coolest idea but he didn't really like it, i will persevere on this one especially now he's getting heavier. All in all a successful day ;D Thanks for your comments as it has put me at ease...have a great day one & all

Glad you had a successful trip out, bet it was lovely to take him along.

I think it's definitely a while after, not at, the second jab that full protection starts - with both Pippa and Lochan pointing out increases in parvovirus in some areas, best check with your local vet when you go in for the jab? He'll know the local risk factors etc?

I've given good thought & i agree Julie...think i'll wait that bit longer. I'll have a word with my vet as well..better to be safe. Charlie was a
a long time coming & i would n't want to compromise his health for the sake of a walk. Just means I'll have to carry the little porker ;)
