What's up with my little guy sucking on his paw or dew claw? It's kind of cute but I'be never seen a dog do that before.

My dog has never done this and I've only ever heard of dogs bothering their paws if there is something irritating/ hurting in the area.I'd have a really good examine to make sure you can't see anything stuck or sore. If you can't see anything yourself but he's still chewing I'd get a checkup at the vet.
My Parents Irish setter had a really bad time with a sore paw last year and that all started from them noticing he was bothering with it when he was relaxing.....

It never seems like they are bothering him, just more like a human baby playing, exploring, and soothing himself. It's quite cute to watch. He just looks like a baby sucking his fingers or thumbs, no chewing or biting, or even licking, just gentle mouthing and well... sucking

Finn doesn't suck his paws or dew claw, but sucks his cuddles like a cat does when a cat is making a bed. He does it more frequently when he is distressed. It is comforting for him and makes him relaxed. Perhaps this is the same?

My dog used to chew/suck on his toenails. Never hurt anything, just seemed like something he did when he had a little extra energy to burn but knew he needed to stay in his spot. I say he caught it from me as even as an adult I'm a terrible nail biter (much to my embarrassment!).

Obi sucks on his Lambies (on the face...). Kind of like sucking a dummy (or pacifier, if you call America home).

Sucking on the paws would have me thinking of an allergy problem though, or at least wanting to rule that out. It's not very good for his paws to be wet and sucked on...that might lead to sores if he does it often enough.

Does he have plenty of soft toys he could suck on if he wanted to?

Suching nails means SLO to me it was a horrible nightmare. I'm still very sensitive if one of my other dog touches a nail too much.

My puppy age 5 and a bit months does play with her paws, going through each claw and pad separately and dropping them. I've even seen her waving her foot in front of her face and catching as she puts it down. I've never seen her suck it though and I guess as others have said your wouldn't want him to make it sore. Might it be a comfort thing though?
