Well....finding good, healthy chews your dog enjoys is a good thing because your dog will enjoy them and that helps to enrich a dog's life. But mainly, I think, a dog should be healthily tired (not over tired) by training, exercise, play, company and new experiences. So I wouldn't feed rawhide to a dog that didn't tolerate it well because of a 'balance' - loads of other things you can do instead.
We haven't used rawhide for a while. Lilly would spend a coupel of hours outside with one, eat about half, bury the rest, finish off the next day. She would go and check on it regularly in the interim. Repeatedly. Sometimes she would sneak the stinky thing in the house and bury it in her bed. A big one like that would keep her occupied for a couple of days on and off. No tummy upsets - which always amazed me. For us, much like a butchers bone, its an outside pursuit, so definitely in the winter/rain/snow.
That one should last him a good few days. He chews for a while and then gets bored and moves on. Few hours later more chew
Ha, again, just like Jessie!! Nothing else cuts it. She has them in the evening to take her mind off annoying the cat!
They keep me sane. The Tasmanian devil made an appearance tonight. A rawhide later.. Ahhhh peace and quiet
