My first breeder had this problem with Doug's litter. Mum had to have an emergency c section . She couldn't feed the pups so the breeder his partner and their son bottle fed the lot. Doug grew to be one of the nicest dogs he had no problems other than an over attachment to nipples or anything nipple shaped too.im sorry you have such a hard time with Finn is it just the fact he was hand reared or was he isolated too?Doug had 10 brothers and sisters so he went through the normal litter rough and tumble, so had access to the learning he needed to function well. Finn sounds a lucky boy to have you. I hope you can find some way to help him, but it sounds like you've done so much already
Yes, exactly his story. He wasn't isolated. They were with 7. We ourself had Euan, an 7 year old yellow lab. We thought that Euan could teach him the dog language, but they didn't like each other very much. Finn was too boisterous for him. We put Finn directly, after all the vaccinations, in the care of a dog walker, so that he was among other dogs. I can go on and on by telling what went wrong but that will take hours and a lot of space here..... I just read a Dutch article that says that behavioral problems in dogs starts in the womb of the mother. Very interesting, because Finn's mum happened to have hypothyroidism during the pregnancy. The breeder didn't know. It showed after the fact that she didn't get better...
I once asked the vet but she thinks not! That was on his yearly consultation. I thought he drank and peed so much. I could bring a urinesample to see if something else was going on...
Definitely follow your instincts, she sounds an awful breeder. I started my search on The Kennel Club website (I ended up waiting 2 years for my girl). Good luck with your search and welcome to the forum.
So true Julie no health tests is a criminal offence. I too love Mabel as much as you love Charlie, and yes I too have changed my career aspirations (in fact I don't work at the moment) her vets bills at the moment look like amounting to £14k in 2 years so slightly cheaper than Charlie. She was also from parents with excellent health scores. No one should ever underestimate the impact on your life a dog has with health issues. Someone once said to me "oh well you wouldn't change her for the world, her ED makes her what she is". Rubbish I'd change her elbows and make her pain free tomorrow if I could.
@kat751 Firstly I would report the "breeder" for breeding from a what is a puppy herself, that's just awful and cruel in my opinion.
