I have been doing a lot of studying into human behaviour and dogs. I have always known that most of what annoyed me about my dog Piper was my fault, he was very well behaved in the house but not so much outside. This was because I was nervous and it rubbed of on him, making him nervous and making him feel he had to be pack leader. I am working very hard on myself and it is really paying off. I also make sure I am the boss inside and outside. I have now also got my bike out of the shed and went off on a bike ride along the canal with Piper. It was very successful and I intend to repeat this as I could never give the same amount of exercise walking. Piper now lying out relaxed and sleepy.
Re: Exercise and behaviour I wonder if Amy can sense me been up tight when we are out. We aren't getting anywhere with her outdoor training.
Re: Exercise and behaviour Glad you've had a good day with Piper, must be great to have your dog well behaved while you are on our bike. I haven't tried that yet. Not sure how I'd get on! Probably not well! I've just finished a great book, which I enjoyed hugely. It's called "in defence of dogs". It's mainly about the history of dogs and people but lots in it about doggy behaviour too. You might enjoy if you are interested in that sort of thing? The author is John Bradshaw.
Re: Exercise and behaviour Hi, dogs can definitely sense when we are tense and do react to it. Easy to say I know and I am the worse at it, but try and relax. Helen x
Re: Exercise and behaviour I often try to analyse Lilly's behaviour. In the woods, she goes ahead of me then stops and waits - I am usually looking at my feet so I don't trip - I am aware she has stopped and is looking towards me - she waits until I look up and makes eye contact then trots off again. All good so far. They she hoofs off after a deer and is missing for 5 mins. :-\ !! Maybe off looking for dinner to feed me, the lesser mortal. I really want to read one of the behaviour books....just not enough time....something has to give and it can't be the forum
