So now Charlie is sleeping through 8 hours at night, I was wondering...now, don't think me greedy for sleep...but...

Is 8 hours as good as it gets? What do people with grown up dogs do? How long can you stay in bed without getting up to let them outside?

    Re: Sleep...

When Obi goes to day care he sleeps from 6pm to 6:30am and only gets up then because we make him get up for a walk. On a weekend day he sleeps from about 7pm, gets up at about 7am for his brekkie, then snoozes again (on our bed) for another hour or two.

So, yep, it can better than 8 hours :)

Oh wow...that sounds great. I'll push on then, with extending the time.

Charlie drinks (and pees) a lot - kibble fed. So I'll have to find his limit. He is never particularly keen to go out last thing at night, but squeezes a bit out in return for his 3 bits of kibble. He needs to go sharpish 8 hours later though! Encouraging to think that might still get longer...many thanks!

Riley chills in his bed as soon as it's obvious that no more food is forthcoming either in his bowl or from our dinners. The latest we come down is 8am, usually earlier but that's due to Lizzie or work.

So with grown up dogs, not everyone has to do the last thing at night, just before bedtime, wee either?

We do encourage Obi to go out at the time we go to bed (round 10pm) but often he won't go out. Either way, he still sleeps all night.

On Thursdays and some Fridays he is home all day and stays inside from 8:45am to about 5:15pm without a wee. He even has to be encouraged to go out to wee when we get home (he just wants to have a pat, a game and his dinner).

Thanks Rachael - I think I'm taking Charlie out too much during the day now, half the time I think he is just going (a dribble) because he goes on cue and he still gets kibble rewards. I'll have a play around and see.

We let ours out last thing, at around 10.30 ish for a last wee, I`m always up early, by 6 at the latest but neither seem that bothered about going out until around 7.30, just before breakfast . If its raining, they will both hang on until forced outside in the morning ::)

since my two were de crated and esconsed on my bed at night sleep times have gone up....we're generally in bed by ten and the dogs sleep right through till i get up which is seven during the week and saturdays, later on sundays. they often get an uber long hike on sundays now and a couple of times ive had to shove them out of bed on monday mornings! cuillin seems to have a camel bladder, and from about fifteen months old Brodick stopped needing to go out for a wee the minute he got up. he can quite happily hang on for a good hour now if he has to...

Amy is now having a last wee at 10. I can't stay up any later, and she is fast asleep by then anyway! But waking up about 6. I leave her until 615. (hubbys alarm time). As soon as I step out off bed she stops whining! So now I have a wash etc, go to kitchen and put the kettle on etc before I open her bed.
