Moderator Note: Moderators note Sadly, in some parts of the world there is a tragic trade in tiny puppies barely able to walk. On the Labrador site we frequently get comments from people who have purchased puppies as young as 21 days old. Their owners will usually need help from a qualified veterinary professional if the puppy is to survive and thrive. Our forum policy is to encourage people to wait until their puppy is eight weeks old before collecting it from the breeder. To make sure we are not encouraging the trade in underage puppies, nor depriving these puppies of essential veterinary attention, we have the following rule. If a forum member’s puppy has been removed from the breeder/ mother before the age of seven weeks, that member must wait until their puppy is seven weeks old before posting about him or her on the forum We recommend that anyone with a puppy under this age contacts their vet without delay for instructions on feeding, general care, and medical treatment. We understand that members want to help these puppies, but the forum is not the right place to be distributing specialist advice of this nature. Hello all, I am sure this question might have been asked a billion times, but i am specifically looking for the answers to the 6 questions / doubts mentioned below : - Background (Early separation: I own a puppy and he is less than 2 months. He was taken away from his mother / litter mates at a very early age ( 4 weeks or less i reckon ) . I am taking care of him for the past 15 days and this is my first puppy. I do understand that the puppy shouldnt have been separated so early however it wasnt my decision or shall I say thats how the business in most part of India takes place. I couldnt get an 8 weeks old despite my request. Problem (Aggressive Biting: He is going through the obvious teething stage but he has strong teeth, the bitings hurt and bleed at times too. He would start following any moving pair of feet and attack them. I am giving him all the toys and attention to the best I can. a) Stop playing with a stern 'No' the moment he gets too aggressive with his biting b) Replace his attention from my body parts to a toy c) Ask him to stop and treat him once he stops (He rebels at the word 'No') d) Increased his meal size a bit to make sure its not the hunger thats making him bite Doubts :: 1) Am I missing on something ? Am I seeking help too early ? 2) Whats an average time a puppy takes to stop biting ? 3) I have a 3 year old daughter and we get a little protective towards her by holding the puppy while she is running around. I am apprehensive she cant resist his bites. Can this behaviour add on to it ? 4) Can one of my methods i.e. #d mentioned above results into making him bite more followed by a stop command which gets him a treat ? 5) Is there some medication that would relieve him from teething problems and he would stop biting. 6) How to make him stop running behind any moving pair of feet? Please help!! We dont have experts around, I am taking care of him with the help of youtube and other forums.
Hello and welcome to the forum. You will see that I have locked this thread to prevent anyone commenting on it. That is because of the forum policy, as stated above. Please feel free to repost your questions when your puppy reaches seven weeks of age, and, in the meantime, have a look at the puppy boards for general information for all your questions regarding biting.
