My 13 month old male Labrador, Teddy, has twice recently greeted other dogs in a friendly way and then tried to wee on them. What do we do about this?

My friend has a Doberman that quite regularly wees on Hattie but we have put it down to the fact that he can smell my other dog Charlie on her so is marking. I don't really know why. :)

Has he recently started leg lifting? I found they get confused over what are appropriate pee stations at that time. Twice isn't a big deal, yet. I'd just tell him no and direct him to a tree. At that stage I noticed Oban pee'd on the owner of a couple of dogs he didn't like much. After twice I caught on and watched and directed him away and he stopped trying. Maybe I was lucky.

He has been lifting his leg for a few months now but this has only started in the last week or so. Teddy doesn't consistently do it, this morning we met a lab puppy that he played quite happily with, a large brown dog he simply ignored and a schnauzer that he greeted and moved on. I just hope it was a passing phase.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

No advice from me but I'm interested in seeing replies as well. My boy used to wee on his "mama" (my older female) after she'd had a bath. Apparently he thought she just didn't smell right and felt the need to fix the situation. Made me want to laugh and cry at the same time as she was such a challenge to bathe. And I had an evil poodle who liked to wee on the trouser legs of friends of mine occasionally. That was pretty mortifying!
