When did you de-crate at night? Corona is 4 months in a couple of days and I was just wondering if she'd sleep a little longer and if she'd be a little more comfortable sleeping on a pillow next to the bed. I really can't complain, she sleeps from 10pm until around 6:20-6:30. This morning it was 6am. So somewhere around 8-8 1/2 hours. She legitimately has to pee and poop and is SUPER wide awake after. I can't help but laugh at how much energy she has in the morning. I hold her off until 7am for breakfast then she's off to the couch for a nap! Little turkey!! While her crate is large, she sleeps COMPLETELY stretched out on her pillow in the living room or on the couch during the day. The crate isn't long enough for her to do that. Maybe I should just be grateful she sleeps as well as she does and not push it. God only knows, it took her until 13 weeks to sleep thru the night!
I decrated after giving up crating her (when she was 12 weeks old!) as she wouldn't settle in the crate over night. She came up with us on her bed on the floor next to ours. As soon as she was upstairs she started sleeping from 11pm-10am and continues to do so now she is 3. Admittedly she now sleeps on the bed with us. She starts at the bottom of the bed and slowly moves up through the night - had to buy a king size bed!
We decrate all our pups at six months, they then have a bed in the utility room But if she's needing early morning pees and poops I would hold off a while yet. ...
We de-crated as soon as she was dry over night - she slept longer and we've had no issues. Crate has always been in our bedroom and she switches between dog bed in our room, crate with door open and our bed.
We de-crated at around 12 weeks to a pillow by the bed (crate was by the side of the bed), but Bailey has always slept through the night from 8 weeks old. Now at 9 months he starts on his pillow, then lays in various positions around the floor, on the landing if its hot, then the bottom of the bed gradually creeping up until he has most of the bed and duvet but to be honest I wouldn't have it any other way - the OH on the other hand....
We just leave the door open on the crate around 10 weeks. Fred sleeps on the sofa, but Annie still goes in her crate to sleep at night. She just loves it. She has a dog bed in side her crate.
We decrated at night before we decrated fully at 9 months. I think around 5 or 6 months. If you are prepared that there may be an accident, I think just try it before taking the crate down and see how it goes.
Has anyone experienced chewing in the night if decrated? I would like to decrate - Rolo is dry but i imagine if he hears a noise and wakes up he could start chewing my brand new kitchen ha any experience of this?
Yes - all my pups have been keen to chew skirting boards. I put anti-chew stuff on them and it has worked ...
Ahhh see Rolo isnt phased by that. I think ill keep him crated for the time being, ive upgraded his crate size too.
Larks started sleeping on our bed around 3 months. She sleeps longer, and when she has to go out to potty around 6:30 I can usually bring her back to bed and she'll sleep for another hour or so.
