Corona is 4 months old now and has had terrible tummy issues for about 5 weeks now, first soft, then super soft then mucousy, then bloody. We have tried everything also. It all STARTED when the vet added Progut probiotic to her diet to get her poops a little harder, to try and help her anal gland infection. She came from the beeeder on eukanuba puppy with no problems. Since her diarrhea, she has been on royal canin HP, steroid, and metronidazole. Just as it started to get a bit better, it started all over again. She is now being slowly switched to royal canin GI, and is on tylasin until we get back the diarrhea panel we decided to pay for. I don't think she has a bad bacteria but at least it will put that part to rest. Also not thinking it's a food allergy because the royal Canin hypoallergenic didn't help. Not sure if switching her food to GI is helping or if it's the tylasin, but it definitely has improved in just a day and a half. Keep in mind that the tylasin is also widely successful in treating colitis. Personally I think I should have just left her poop alone, because the second we started the probiotic and the switch of food, this whole frustrating mess began.

I really want to try orijen but can only buy it from Amazon. Live in the Channel Islands so can only get large bags £60+

May have to ask the local pet shops to see if they can get it in.

You really need to look at why Purina got two stars and see whether you agree with the reasons. Probably Purina got 2 stars because of the amount (and possibly mix) of carbohydrates and also that the protein source contains unspecified "Dehydrated poultry protein, Animal fat". It's not necessarily a bad thing that a dehydrated protein source appears after a carbohydrate source (in the case of Purina, wheat). Because a fresh source appearing at the top will be much less in volume in the final kibble because it contains water.

So, really, it's a bit hard to say. Although that doesn't seem to stop the various food advisor websites. :D:D:D

Having said that, I wouldn't feed that kibble to a Labrador puppy myself. For what it's worth, I feed Betsy on Orijen Large Breed puppy, and I feed Charlie on Royal Canin SC21 Duck and Tapioca (because he needs a food without chicken).

@JulieT it is such a minefield. I have made a decision. I paid a visit to my favorite pet shop and asked her about nutrition. I would like to try orijen but they don't stock and would be an expensive trial if it doesn't work for storm.

They stock a few different high end brands and I have gone for barking heads puppy. Hopefully it is a good one I like the sound of it. The company also do a brand called Aatu which is comparable to orijen from what I can see. It's not a puppy specific food so may look to switch her to that if all goes well with this food.

    :)

It is indeed. :) But, to be honest, picking something that suits your dog is the most important. Then what suits your budget.

All dogs are different, some do better on one food than another. Charlie is sick if we give him chicken. Betsy is fine on chicken. It's very difficult.

Were you actually feeding pork? What Royal Canin food was she on?

I forget the codes. I think one was skin and digest. Will check the packets. Didn't check the ingredients myself. They compared them for me. :)

It's funny how many people don't. I don't mean that in a critical way, I just think that we are all so used to labels being confusing that we ignore them - it's a perfectly natural and logical thing to do. :)

Keeping notes is key when you are trying to find a food that suits your dog. Keep a note of the protein and carbohydrate sources and switch to single sources if you are having problems.

There are thousands and thousands of food you could try, and only by keeping a note of what does and does not suit your dog can you make any sense of it.

    Best of luck. :)

I know there are five pound bags but, yes, you would have to get it from a pet store and, because it is so expensive, few carry it BUT they may be happy to order it for you. Good luck.
