I must admit we have been quite lucky with Rolo upto now (touch wood) he has his moments but generally we get so many positive comments on how good he is with a fab temperament! But he still has lots of growing into a teenager to do :')

 

Well, some only settle down at three.

Apparently Labs are late maturers! That's what so wonderful about them - I love the goofiness.

 

Would somebody please tell Tuppence that she's three now? I've tried, but she's not listening...

 

Someone at the rugby club this weekend said how good Bailey was and well trained - I thought he was taking one.....however I met his boxer later that afternoon, the boxer is 18 months old, has no recall, goes ballistic when he sees another dog and continually jumped up at me. Compared to his dog, yes my boy is an angel . I did drop some hint that I've picked up from here and dog training classes but just got a blank look back....oh well

 

well when they settle down you will remember all the pain you've been through and you will laugh and buy another puppy i'm sure
Is this your first dog ? I think that most of the owners that are complaining are 1st time owners and usually the bad things that the dogs are doing are the due to mistakes that the owners are doing. Not blaming this on you but can't blame the dog either.

I used to have a Rottweiler (he was my second dog) and he was like a saint. never touched a thing which was not his. However when i got the Labrador, in the first 2 weeks i thought he will drive me crazy (he was just 2 months old when we got him). He was literally putting his mouth on every single thing he could reach. Every 2 seconds i was pushing his head away from things he was trying to chew and said "No". I knew they were like that before i bought him but boy this little thing was more determined then i expected and i thought he will never stop. Then one day he just stopped. Magic ha?

I think the most important thing is to be consistent and have good timing. Just take one-two weeks off from work and keep an eye on him all day long and check what he is doing and say no to what you don't want him to do as soon as he starts doing it. Try to get him a bit more tired by teaching him things or take him for a walk.

Trufflepup sounds exactly like Storm. Especially this haha she does this too.

She also worktop surfs all the time and like you say it is so hard with small children. I have a 4 and a 6 years old.

She has eaten a few things but in terms of toxins we have managed a chocolate cookie, a small piece of freddo, a raisin and the best was salt dough. Poor thing was peeing constantly for about 24 hours. We had to leave her out of her crate that night!!!

Poor kids have now been banned from eating raisins, grapes and chocolate in the same room as the pup.

I would like to teach her to settle down but don't really know where to start.

We have done some reasonably successful mat target but don't know how to progress to getting her to stay on it for more than a minute or so. X
