Has anyone noticed a drastic change is thier puppies breath due to teething? Larks is about to be 5 months old and all the sudden her breath is terrible! It's like sort of fishy or iron smelling. Very weird. She's been to the vet recently and had her mouth and teeth checked and all was fine. Should I worry about this or do anything different?
It is gross!!! She likes to snuggle up close to me on the couch but then she'll yawn and MAN it's awful!
Yes, Jet's breath smelled like rotten meat, it was awful. I guess it was rotten meat too, bits of gum flesh. Oban's breath didn't stick at all.
Weird - I've not noticed this with either of my puppies. Their breath never had a bad smell while they were teething. Mind, I think Charlie's poo doesn't smell (and sometimes has bits of rainbow glitter in it) and my friend (who occasionally walks Charlie and hates the poo picking up part of the job) just tells me I'm deluded.
Yes! My husband was just making that comment yesterday - Libby just turned 5 months. Smells like fish.
Lord, yes! While Teller was already a year old when we rescued him and therefore finished teething, we bought a male Pointer pup this summer past and he started teething in earnest a month ago. We were on a road trip at the time with both dogs and after a hearty play session we noticed there was blood smeared on Teller's fur. After checking both dogs for scrapes and cuts, I looked in Rig's mouth and saw space where the tooth used to be and a bit of blood. He lost around half his puppy teeth that weekend rough-housing with his 'brother' but on the way home we noticed a horrible fishy odor in the car. We stopped and made sure the dogs hadn't rolled or stepped in anything but then Rigby came up to me and breathed... The vet said it's completely normally and its persistence depends on each dog. Within a couple of weeks the smell went away and he was back to normal dog-breath.
I wrote a post months ago asking the very same thing while going through this stage haha...very bad smell! Fishy/iron smell...it's teething.
