Riley has a dry scaly patch on his left elbow. I thought it was where he's been wrestling with my in-laws dog and it would sort itself out and hair would regrow. However recently it's got slightly bigger and some skin has flaked off, I also think there's a really tiny lump under the skin. Went to the vet today for jabs and asked while we were there but she just thought it was rubbed from lying down and any investigation would involve cutting the patch out and an anesthetic which seems a bit dramatic at this point. I'm not sure though because it's on the side of his elbow and he doesn't really lie on it, plus he's in bed or on carpet. Any thoughts? I will keep an eye on it, it doesn't seem to bother him at all........
Re: Dry scaly patch on elbow My old Lab girl had that Barbara, but hers was from lying on it as she didnt like beds at all , preferring to lay on hard surfaces , I would just keep an eye on it for now before rushing into anything , it might just have been a bite or sting thats taking its toll, get well soon Riley
Re: Dry scaly patch on elbow Can you post a photo? Sounds like decubitus, really common (sorry Riley to call you "common" but in all things medical you never want to be unusual or rare....) grey scaly patch over the outside of the elbow. I can give you a better idea from a photo though.
Re: Dry scaly patch on elbow Thanks Will take a photo when I get home. More than happy for this to be common ;D
Re: Dry scaly patch on elbow Charlie has this on one elbow too Barbara, I wondered what it is. Helen x
Re: Dry scaly patch on elbow Photo fail tonight the flash meant there was no detail. Will try again tomorrow in natural light
Re: Dry scaly patch on elbow Sorry for the delay and I'm not sure the photo is worth it - it was hard to capture....
Re: Dry scaly patch on elbow No, afraid that doesnt help, Barbara, it just looks like he has got white paint on his coat!
Re: Dry scaly patch on elbow Not a great photo but I would be pretty certain this is decubitus, very common in labs, usually but not always on both elbows. Generally of no significance, but very occasionally gets infected. I would avoid biopsy like the plague as the constant movement at this site means it is the very devil to get to heal....think Dexters tail and then some.....
Re: Dry scaly patch on elbow No sorry, will check the other photos again but small grey scaly patch in black fur is the very devil to photograph ! Thanks for your help ;D
