Woke up an hour later than usual to let Sparky out of his crate so he can go toilet and eat his breakfast. As I was walking down to the basement I smelled poo! Say it ain't so! I lifted up the cover to his crate and there he was sleeping in between two piles of soft poo. Poor guy and poor me! Never thought this would happen to us, but I know the day is coming from reading all the stories here.

No one else was awake and my wife went to work already. I had to figure out how to get him out of the crate with minimal poop on him. I opened up the crate while trying hard not to vomit (i'm a nurse and i hate poop). I turned my back and pretended to go upstairs and he got up and avoided stepping on his poop. I grabbed him quickly and inspected the rest of his body for poop and saw that his paws were clean except for his tail we went upstairs and I let him go toilet. I had another soft poo outside and I let him sit outside for a bit while I ready the shower to wash him. Grabbed his shampoo and a towel and early morning shower with the pooch. No way I was gonna wash him outside where it was freezing. Poor guy he was trapped inside the shower stall with me with no way out.

Put him in his crate upstairs and set out downstairs to start cleaning up. Had to dismantle the pen/crate setup since I couldn't get the plastic tray out safely without spreading more poop. Ended up reconfiguring everything and sanitizing his area.

He has been having soft stool for the last 3-4 days, but I thought it was just the introduction of coconut oil into his diet. Yesterday he only had his boiled chicken, normal kibble and peanut butter. I have stopped all other treats already. I think its the new brand of peanut butter that we are using.

Anyway, called the vets and brought him in. He's still as excited and perky. He ate his breakfast fine. Vet said she didn't think he was dehydrated. No fever. Sparky got a shot of penicillin and took a drontal tab and will be starting metronidazole tomorrow. I started him also on boiled chicken and rice which he gobbled up gladly. Now he's tired. We didn't get back from the vet until 12 noon and we have been at it for 6 hours.

So far so good. Waiting for him to poop again but no luck so far. Luckily I was off today.

12 hours later he finally had his first poop. Formed but soft. I'm gonna let him sleep in his pen for a little bit then off to the toilet again before bed time. Feels like day 1 when we first got him.

I wouldn't give him the coconut oil, especially if he has soft poo at the moment, keep his diet bland which you are doing with the chicken and rice.

Morning time. No surprise in the crate. Thank God! However, he wouldn't poo when taken outside. He had his chicken and rice only this morning. Poor boy, he must be thinking why are you all being stingy.

Look at the ingrediƫnts of the peanut butter. There could be xylitol in it! Not all of the peanut butters are able to use for the dogs, especially the ones with xylitol are forbidden!

I hope he is better soon.

Maybe just skip the peanut butter altogether. It's always struck me as a bit of a mad thing to feed to dogs. And the Coconut oil come to that...

Dont know about coconut oil but any peanut butter gives Cooper a soft stool, so I totally avoid it. Hope he gets better soon.....Give Sparky a woof from Cooper please.....

well looked at the ingredients and its just valencia peanuts and no salt. go figure.

so solid poo in the morning when i left and he didn't go again until I got home. both formed and semi-soft, but solid enough to be picked up. still energetic as can be. he went to puppy play and vomited his chicken and rice, but all mostly water. he was drinking so much water there. wonder what the trainer was thinking when she saw the vomit contents.

So just received a call from the vet. Fecalysis results are in. Negative on parasites or anything else. Thank God! Gonna start mixing his kibble back in. Poops so far are still semisolid and can be picked up.

Taking a step back with potty training. I think part of the reason is we got overconfident and got lax with the toileting. Part of this is putting him to bed earlier and failing to take him out when we normally did. Back to letting him sleep a little later and making sure we get him out by 5 AM. So far so good. On a good note, he has rang the potty bell twice today without any prompting and going straight to pee outside!
