    Hi everyone,

This might sound really stupid but thought i would ask anyway.

At the minute 11 week old Chester doesnt really like to cuddle up and sit with us. I think he likes being stroked but it normally leads to him wanting to chew our hands lol. We both love him to bits and are always playing with him and he has loads of toys to bite at and chew but we just want a cuddle sometimes.

We just wanted to ask if this was normal and if he will grow into wanting to sit next to us to be stroked etc?.

    Keith, Katie & Chester )

Yes, he will grow calmer, and will be happy to sit with you and have quiet cuddle times.

All dogs are different, of course, and have their own likes and dislikes. My dog has never really been keen on having her head or ears stroked, for instance, she prefers us to rub her chest or tummy... ::)

But keep on rewarding Chester when he is calm, and show him you enjoy having peaceful times together. As he gets a little older, he will gradually start to appreciate it more too. And you will probably see a marked decrease in the biting when his new teeth come in, at around 4-5 months. Hang in there! :)

good advice karen :).......jasper 8 month old will cuddle my son, with me he used to just put his head on my lap, think that was due to all the biting he did, i didn't enjoy him as a baby , as soon as he turned 6 month we started getting a lovely bond with each other, now at 8 month wow :)

Lilly doesn't much like having her head touched or stroked.
And neither is she that cuddly. But then.....we don't let her up on the seats. Honest!
She likes to curl up next to our legs on the bed though :)

I haven't got a lap Labrador for cuddling either :( He loves to be by us when HE wants too and he always sits with his head on my feet when he is by me.He loves his tummy rubs and body checks when HE wants them but when he's had enough he gets up and goes and lies down where HE wants to lie...which is absolutely fine as long as its not the couch ;) Ive thought maybe I sacrificed his affection by not letting him up on the furniture but quite often I sit on the floor to encourage him onto me for a cuddle and he's not that keen. When he was little he would put his head in my lap but not now.If we sit on his tv bed he'll come and climb on but not for long.....he loves a good wrestle session with Chris too ;D

You can train them to cuddle ::) - I know because while I've spent my time on recall, stop whistle, steady sit...OH has trained Charlie to lie quietly on his back on OH's tummy, while OH lies in his reclining armchair watching TV, Charlie getting a tummy rub and having kibble dropped in his mouth...it looks super cute, and actually comes in handy when we want Charlie to "settle"...

OH has the nerve to say this is a massive contribution to the training effort...

Julie, you probably just forgot to mention it but I'm assuming that Charlie also has an entourage of attractive bitches to fan him with palm fronds, that he bathes in mares' milk and that the kibble is peeled. ;)

I was wondering if they grow out off wanting cuddles, as you can see from my photos Amy likes a cuddle.

Charlie says "not yet", much to his disgust! But it's just a matter of time.... ::)
