Hello, we have a new black Labrador puppy called Buddy who is just 10 weeks old. We have had him since he was 8 weeks old. We slept near his crate for the first few weeks as he was getting up to the toilet during the night, to do a wee and poo! We are now trying to sleep upstairs and come down to him during the night to let him out to toilet. He is still doing a poo during the night. Is this normal? We feed him his last meal at 7pm and by 8pm he is flat out asleep, we have tried really hard to keep him up playing but can only keep him up until 9.15 at the latest, we then take him to the toilet at about 10.30, sometimes 11.30. Can anyone give any advice to a very tired family!

    Hi
Welcome to you and Buddy. It's really normal for a 10 week pup to want to poo in the night. Have you got 'The happy puppy handbook' gives loads of great advice including toileting.
My pup Winnie is now 9 months and she didn't go all night until about 14 weeks but they're all different. Having a pup is really tiring but it really does get easier! If you go to bed around 10:30pm then set your alarm for 15 mins before Buddy would normally get you up in the night, take him out with no fuss, return him to his bed. Keep moving the time 5 minutes on a night. As his body grows he will last much longer.
Is he crated or in a pen? Many use a pen to avoid getting up in the night. The broken nights will end, I promise!
I'm no expert, hang in there, enjoy him whistle he's little- they grow so quick.
    Post a pic!

My Luna is ten weeks tomorrow. She doesn't go through the night usually. Last night, I took her out at midnight, then 3am and 6am and she went each time. I started off just letting her go in her pen, but this just didn't work for us, as she'd start crying after going, and would walk through it, meaning more clearing up. So, back to setting my alarm - it's easier!

I got lucky with Stryker never really having the urge to poop at night but what I did was place a chair outside the door and plopped my butt in it and let him do his business regardless if he wanted to go out or not every few hours. Most times he just go pee but first thing in the morning it was potty, a little bit of playtime, breakfast, training, potty break, nap time by noon, potty, more play time/training, potty, nap time, potty, playtime, dinner, playtime, potty, bedtime, potty, back to sleep, potty and repeat.

    Lots of potty breaks.

He is only 6 (or 7) months old and has had 2 accidents in the past few months. Once was my fault for not taking him out before I left the house and the other he really had no control over after eating an entire bag of dog treats my neighbor kindly placed within his range with her failing to notifying me of her good deed/gesture.

Stanley was really bad through the night. We went our at least once a night until he was about 17 weeks. I was so tired!!

Then one day it just stopped, and now there's not a peep from him until I get up about 7.30/8am from between 10-11pm :)

You are doing all the right things.

When Mollie wanted a poo in the early hours my supervisor suggested feeding her later (8:30pm) and it worked, she lasts until about 7am now - she's 13 weeks old.

    :)
