Firstly Happy new Year to each and everyone of you and your gorgeous furbabies. I hope its been a good one for all. Rolo has been humping his bed - a LOT to the point he wont even settle now when i crate him i hust hear banging away Its like a square bed with edges and a pillow inside, so he can get it under him and touching. Do you think i shoyld change the bed? Any other tips too Thanks
Duggan started humping his bed a lot at about 5 months. And I mean a lot. Whenever he got excited and didn't get any attention took it out on the bed. Naturally at first we told him no and when that didn't work I used to get upset which just turned it into a game for him. So I just ignored him, left the room which slowed the behaviour. He only did it when I was around. After a week of ignoring we then just took the bed away every time he humped it. After an a hour it came back. If he went for another go we removed the bed again. Calmly and with a smile. And said thank you every time he watched me walk away with his bed with the cutest confused look on his face. Now at 7 months he hasn't humped it for a month now. In hind sight I'd of just smiled and removed it from the onset of the behaviour, which I created and made worse. If it makes a difference he is entire.
Yep, ignore, don't make a fuss, remove the item the dog is humping. Personally, I hate humping of anything, and was very consistent in interrupting Charlie when he did it as a pup. Now, he never humps anything and I'm pleased about that.
Thank you both! I felt so mean removing his bed but I know it wont harm him! It can get frustrating and I dont want him to turn it into a game so remove without fuss and a smile will now commence !
Maybe you could try a piece of vet bed instead? Benson was a humper...still does occasionally! He doesn't like to hump vetbed though. (can't believe I typed that...)
Ha ha some of the stuff we write on here we never imagined we would! I didd have some vetbet it was great, but rolo sicked all on it and i could never get the smell out so i binned it, i should really get around to buying some more
OMG. Archie has become a humping maniac. It drives me crazy. I honestly didn't think that the urge could be controlled by taking the humping object away (simply becuase he does it anywhere on anything). I will up my game now and remove anything he begins to become amorous with. No more Dr. Love in this house!!!
