    Hi everyone.
Today I brought my 8 week old yellow lab home. She is currently laying next to me on the ground napping adjusting fairly well to her new home. I have read the happy puppy book and have been reading posts on the forum and just had a question on house training. She had one accident in the car ride which was an hour and a half I took her out when I got home she didn't go then a few minutes later in the house had an accident. Since then I have taken her out a couple times only weed one of them. How hard should I stick to the 30 minutes if she is resting? She hasn't eaten much since she arrived assuming it's due to being in a new place. Also how long do you stay out side to see if they have to go?

Thanks for the help will try and posts pictures later when I get on a computer.

Hi, and welcome from Holly and me.

We never disturbed Holly when she was resting. As soon as she woke up we took here to her toilet spot and waited until she performed. When she did perform she got lots of praise and a play with her toy.

There were some accidents in the first weeks, sometimes because we were too slow or missed a signal.

Let sleeping pups lie! But, as soon as she wakes, take her out. You're bound to miss it a few times. If you're carrying something when she wakes up, you'll think "I'll just put this on the table then take her out", but that's too long, and she'll have gone. You'll learn :D

My new pup got really distracted outside and, like you, I'd wait for half an hour for her to go the second I brought her back in. I found a small pen outside for a toilet area has made the world of difference, as it quickly gets boring and she learns it's just a place to "go". I always give her three treats for going, one after the other.

Welcome to this mad life. I agree you should let her sleep but then immediately outside until she wees however long that is (glad I got mine in the summer!).
Looking forward to the pics :D

Hi and welcome from me and my boy Bailey, a fox red nutter.

Totally agree let sleeping pups sleep, then get them outside immediately. There will be accidents in the next few weeks but lots of praise and treats when she goes outside and calm behaviour when she has an accident.

Welcome to the mad world of puppydom, looking forward to seeing the pictures :)

I was trying to post a picture but cannot figure it out. I try pasting a link in the image to photobucket but doesn't seem to work. Is there a post on how to post images?
