Hi everyone! Well, he's home and seems to be settling in well. The drive home yesterday went very well, sat on my lap asleep without any accidents. Introduced him to his crate (very uninterested, would rather sleep on the hard floor in the conservatory), gave him some food and water...he scoffed the lot! The afternoon was a combination of sleep and play. Little bit bitey but nothing painful. A couple of accidents but seemed to know where to go very quickly in general. He needed to go out twice in the night, once at 2 then 5. Mum stayed with him for the first night just in case he was upset, no problems there. Tonight he'll be left on his own to see how he gets on. He seems to be into everything, have to keep checking what he's got in his mouth. I can understand why people say it's daunting...it's a lot to learn and very quickly! Any pearls of wisdom?
Re: Monty's home! Thats all sounding very good indeed Pearls of wisdom ? I had my first very own dog when i was about 8 years old , so thats 58 years ago and I am still learning about dogs , training , welfare etc . All I can say is enjoy Monty whilst he is a puppy, times flies by so quickly , they soon become all grown up and try to relax around him, not always easy but if the owner becomes stressed , so does the dog and of course , read all the posts and articles on this forum and website , invalueable ;D
Re: Monty's home! Just enjoy and love him. And learn to distance yourself from possessions. Carpets, books, shoes, chair legs - all are unimportant in the great scheme of things. What you will gain is the love and companionship of a true friend - and that is really irreplaceable.
Re: Monty's home! Oh how lovely! My best advice is to read all the resources on the main website - there is so much information there that I wish I knew at the beginning. Probably the main one I would have wanted to know was how to get a pup to follow you around, to get that very earliest basic recall. Such a steep learning curve though.
Re: Monty's home! Congratulations on bringing your new puppy home As others have said, just enjoy him, it goes all too quickly. Try not to worry, take it one day at a time, and shout out if you need help Have fun! Pippa
Re: Monty's home! Congrats on your new arrival...as everyone has said ENJOY...it's great fun ;D me and Charlie are having a ball ;D My only regret I didn't get a puppy sooner Good Luck
Re: Monty's home! Mark he sounds like he's settling in very well....out of all the replies I have read 2 words stand out......1. Relax...I don't always do that :-[ 2. Enjoy I always do that!!!! ;D. ;D can't believe how much I love our boy I totally agree with Jacqui...our pup was 5 months old when he arrived and as an inexperienced owner I really would have found that following round stage invaluable ...... And expose him to as many noises, experiences, places, smells as you can Check in with us and let us know how you are doing Best wishes Angela
Re: Monty's home! Aww, lovely! Sounds like he's settling in really well! Hmm....I haven't a clue what i'm doing but these forums are fantastic for advice! Nice to know that whatever you're experiencing, someone else has undoubtedly experienced it as well and can help you . Have fun!
Re: Monty's home! Thanks for the replies everyone! Took a day off work and spent my first day solo with him. All in all it's been very good, no problems experienced. He had his first jab yesterday so has slept quite a bit today (not sure if that's related). Waiting for my old man to get in so I can get a few bits and bobs done! Hope you're all well
