In light of Caroles post regarding the pup who needs a new home , I thought I would post the following information in case any members know of anyone who has a genuine reason for rehoming a dog of any breed .
As most of you know , I am a volunteer for the Blue Cross , they run a wonderful scheme called Home Direct , all of the BC shelters now offer this service .
In non urgent cases , you can ask your local rehoming centre to visit you at your home in order to assess the dog and meet you . The experienced, qualified rehoming officer will take the information away , the dog will be placed on the BC website as being available for rehoming , but only to the right home .
When a potential new owner enquires about the dog , the BC will contact the owner and arrange a visit to meet the dog at home , the owner will have the right to refuse if they feel that the potential owner is not the right person but the BC always try to match very carefully , their return rate is extremely low .
If all goes well , the potential new owner will be home checked and if this goes to plan , the dog can go to the new home straight from its former home, saving the trauma of having to be placed in kennels , something that very many dogs find distressing .
This is a really grand scheme , for all concerned and one that the BC have championed with great success .
