Today, my daughter came over with her pup Sam, 2 days older than Molly, so making them both 9 months. To set the scene, Sam was castrated at 6 months, so pretty well 3 months ago. Molly has not been spayed as I want to be sure she is fully grown before that happens. I don't mind if she's had a season or not, just that she has done growing. They don't see each other that often, but when they do they seem to be very happy and have lots of boisterous fun, which happened again today, big time. However, after an hour or so, Sam started trying to hump Molly at every opportunity, sniffing and washing her nether regions vigorously She was quite happy with this and actually came over proper hussy-like. Now, am I to assume a season is about to start? At what stage does bleeding start, or is that also uncertain? Reading everything I can, this seems to be an unpredictable nightmare. Any 'experience' stories will be much appreciated.
It sounds likely. Tuppence had her first season at about that age, whereas Wispa's was later. Both were spayed afterwards and Wispa didn't really have any obvious problems during her season. Tuppence became very clingy and after a week or so began to have 'accidents' indoors. I was quite concerned that it seemed to affect her so much, but Molly might just sail through it all like Wispa did!
She's absolutely fine now. As soon as her first season was over she was back to normal, apart from a slight almost phantom pregnancy which soon sorted itself out. I felt quite relieved after she was eventually spayed because she was so pitiful towards the end of her season that I didn't want her to be like that again. Wispa hadn't had any of Tuppence's symptoms. I hope Molly copes well.

It can be really difficult to know when they are at the start of their season. Harley kept herself really clean. I only knew as I put a white sheet on her bed and seen a few spots when she woke up. I put the sheet down as my neighbours dog started trying to hump her and was literally around her back end for ages.
I think if you can just put some white bedding down where your girl sleeps and just check it each morning. I have a castrated male and he usually gets a bit interested about 2 weeks before my girl starts (I'm expecting her 3rd season in the next week or so, so I am also on season watch) - The first season is the hardest to know because it can be quite light.
Bella is 13 months and started her first season on 1st Feb, 3 days ago. There was a little bleeding on day 1, just a few spots around her bed and when she shook. Day 2 a little less and today hardly any bleeding. She isn't cleaning herself particularly, there isn't much swelling of her vulva and she isn't particularly sleepy. Mostly just fed up with not having her usual run out! My question is, is that it? Do some bitches just have a very light show first time around? Will she still follow a 3 week pattern with ovulation in the middle? Or can I risk taking her out, off lead again so soon? We both so miss her walks!
Sorry, just read another thread "silent season" - it appears my concerns are quite common. Just have to keep her away from the boys!
