Ouf, I had no idea this could happen. So glad that Burke and Bessie are ok. And now I understand why Xena's kennels require dogs to wear quick release collars.

My friends lab cross some how managed to get his mouth caught in his own collar. Shes vet and he was at at work with her.He was strangling and one of vet nurses heard him in her office. They all ran in and my friend quickly grabbed a scalpel and cut it of. Everyone was fine,Charlie was a bit bruised and shook up, but none of us use buckle collars now just quick release. I only have collars on for walks anyway.

Yikes! So many scary stories! Bessie's was quick release but somehow I didn't even think of that, I just reached under and unhooked it from Burke's jaw.

They seem fine. I was worried about her huffing and coughing yesterday but she only did it that once. I felt like her neck muscles were really tight on one side yesterday and she acted like it hurt when I touched them, so she may be sore. But seems basically okay.

I worry about that with her own collar too! I was keeping her harness on in the house for training purposes but she dipped her mouth down and chewed the chest strap; to do that she could have gotten it caught for sure.

I usually check on them every few minutes outside because who knows what could happen, but I'm really, really glad I did so when I did yesterday!

Burke has the invisible fence collar that he has to wear at least a certain % of the time or he figures out that there is no barrier without it. I'm looking into a quick-release collar for that; they sell replacement ones.
