My lovely other half has told me that Murphy is more my dog.....

She is on a field trip for her birding bunch, she left fairly early this morning and will not be back until tomorrow some time.

Murphy is used to her coming and going, shopping etc. But after she was gone about 4 hours when we would come in the house he would check out all her usual haunts. Then, by 6 pm, he decided she MUST be in the garage so he sat staring at the door for a while.

He has not done this sort of thing when I am gone.

This is really good though, because I think he is actually prefers both of us, strange as that sounds. He relates to each of us quite differently. It is easy to tell that she is "mom" and I am "dad". He will get a bit rowdy with me when we are playing, but never with her. Right now he has decided it is best to sleep on a rug fairly near the garage door.

Ah, funny little things our labs aren't they? I wonder if he's happier when you are both with him because that's they way he thinks its meant to be. That is certainly the case with our girl Molly.

Sounds like you're enjoying your Murphy very much :)

Awww... I bet she'll be pleased when she gets home and hears how much Murphy missed her. I mean, no one wants their dog to be sad, but we all secretly hope they do care enough to miss us if we can't be there. :)

If I'm out I will often get a WhatsApp: Snowie wants to know when you'll be home.

My husband says he's maudlin when I'm out and it upsets my husband terribly! Although I do believe that Snowie likes it best when we're both home. Me, too, I like the house to be "complete"!

Harley is the same when I'm working late or go away for the night to visit my daughter. She does the same when the OH is away working. She much prefers us both being home.m

Rotties are at heart herding dogs, and both of mine were the happiest when all the people they loved were not only in the same house, but nicely corralled into the same room. You could just see the sense of satisfaction on their faces: "Ah, my work here is done...now I can take a nap!"

In that case, that must make *me* a herding dog, too! :)
