    Hi,

First time poster here! I've read quite a few threads though over the years though, this site is a great resource. I searched a bit and didn't find anything specifically addressing my question, but if I missed something please just point me in the right direction.

We're getting a lab puppy in 6 weeks (yay!). We currently have another lab (Murphy) who will be 3 in a couple of weeks, so we're well aware of all of the trials and tribulations that come along with a lab puppy. What's new this time around though is the older dog. He was our first so there were no issues around introductions, sharing, etc to contend with. We're pretty comfortable with all of that, but we're not sure what to do at puppy feeding times for the first few months. Murphy currently gets fed twice a day, morning and evening. We'll feed puppy at the same time, but because puppy needs more frequent, smaller meals, we need to figure out what to do for Murph during the extra feedings. We don't want him to be put out because the puppy is getting something and he isn't. So I'm curious to know how other people handled this? Did you separate them? Or treat the other dog while puppy ate? Or something else altogether?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to you :)

I give Tatze (3 years old) a filled kong at the pup's meal times.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Are you going to have a pen or a crate for your puppy? I'd feed him in there. That's what I do with mine.

We just feed Cooper in her playpen for the first few months.
Both of our Labs are pretty mellow and don't mess with the other's food when they are eating. Cooper will eat Tilly's if she is not around, so we make sure both dogs are around when we feed them.

Of course, his kong! That's a great idea.

Puppy will be in a pen, and we will be feeding him in there, but our home is very open and Murphy will still know when puppy gets fed.

I think the kong will work perfectly. It will keep him occupied and turn puppy feeding times into a positive for him too, so that's great.

    Thanks everyone!
