Ripple came quite late to the world of hooleys, as a small puppy he never seemed to do the bum tuck charge about thing. Unfortunately now he has discovered it I'm getting 30kg of Labrador hurling himself at me He doesn't seem to be able to have a hooley without involving me . Today he had been in the stream and came charging out rushing up and down the field, slammed himself against my back so hard he fell over and then proceeded to put his teeth round my arm, really hurting me even though I had several layers on. All his hooleys end like this with his teeth on me and I usually have to stop him by waving squeezy cheese around as it is the only way to get his attention, I've tried blowing the whistle or shouting stop but he is too far out of it to react. It also always seems to happen out in the open, such as a field or on the beach, where there is no where to get out of his way. He seems to be very immature in lots of his ways, so I'm used to finding solutions that would normally suit a younger pup, but this is no joke really - 30kg of lab plus teeth is a bit much. I want him to be able to enjoy himself without this assault on me at the end. Any suggestions gratefully received .
Could you try throwing a ball or toy when he hurtles towards you? Might be a way to direct his attention. Harley loves hoolies and has had them since she was a pup, but she is always aware of where I am and keeps her distance. It is great watching them hoolie though isn't it
Twiglet used to do this - she knocked me over five times! I must have good bones as I didn't break any!! All I can suggest is stepping out of the way at the last minute. Twiglet did find her brakes eventually ...
I can see I'm not alone then @Boogie , I'll have to be a bit quicker in my reactions to step out of the way - mind you I don't think that will stop the teeth. I might try the ball idea @Naya - but again I'd have to be really quick as it all happens so fast. I love to see him enjoying himself but I don't like being the recipient of the teeth!
