Hi everyone. I am worried that my 13 month lab is becoming very possessive of his friends. He plays with 3 other dogs and they have played since he was a pup. The problem that I have is that If another dog comes over to play with one of them, he gets very defensive and goes for the dog. Chasing, and growling until the other dog submits and I pull him off. He hasn't actually hurt another dog yet. This has happened twice now and I'm getting worried . He hasn't been neutered yet, but am planning to do so soon. Will this help the situation?
Why is he so possessive of his friends?

I would just like to add, that he is not possessive about his food or toys. Just other dogs approaching his doggy friends. As if to say they are my friends not yours you can't play with them go away...

Hi Karen, I haven't experienced this behaviour myself, but I am sure others on the forum will be able to relate.
If he is getting really excited playing he might just be in "the zone" and be over-reacting to other dogs.
Has this happened when he has been playing with just one dog?
And does it happen if he is on his own and meets another dog? On or off lead?
