    So sorry for your loss.

Where are you based? Price of a Labrador puppy seems to vary vastly depending on where you live in the world.

Warm welcome to the forum btw from me Kate, Benson 3, Bramble 1, and Casper almost 8 :)

We lost ours last year. It's so painful. So sorry for your loss. I was looking for a good few months and they seemed to be in the region of 450-850 our puppy being 600. It really does vary- good luck on your search.

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear you lost your lab.
Are you definitely looking for a puppy? (even after reading the puppy boards?)
Just wondering if you might consider re-homing as an option too.
Maybe not the same as a puppy, just a thought.

    Hi, sorry for your loss.

I'm looking to r get a puppy in a few months, just waiting on a surgery first so been looking and planning since September. I'm hoping to get one via a breeder and then you're looking at around £850. You can get cheaper of course but I'm planning to go down that route rather than buy one from an advert etc. I've seen the price range vary hugely from £350-£1000 plus.

Puppies should cost quite a lot of money - at least around 600 pounds. Otherwise if the breeder has been diligent, done all the necessary health checks on his bitch, paid the stud fee for a good dog with all health checks, will be taking proper veterinary care of the puppies including worming and vaccinations, and is providing them with good food and a safe, warm, enriching environment, there is no way he can cover his costs. Beware of 'bargain' puppies - they usually come from a less-than-ideal background.

Conversely, if you are being charged much more than around 850 pounds for a Labrador puppy, then I would be very careful - some breeders are charging over the odds for certain colors, which shouldn't really be the main consideration when buying a puppy. That would be like choosing a spouse on the basis of looks alone - not a guarantee for a happy marriage!

These prices are for the UK, obviously. I live in Germany, and puppies are generally more expensive here. For a dog from a good breeder you would expect to pay in the region of 1500 euros (around 1300 pounds).

    So sorry for your loss.

I'm paying £800 for my new pup but parents are both fully health tested and there has been no expense spared in rearing them.
There are loads of cheaper litters around but when you look into them they are usually not KC registered, parents are not health tested and they're being reared in an outbuilding or kennel. OK you might strike lucky and pick a pup with no problems from one of these litters but.......

The Champdogs site is a good place to search for health tested litters or the Kennel Club can supply a list of breeders. Good luck.:)

I used champdogs site for my last dog. I paid 650 for him. His parents were very healthy and had all the relevant tests and the COI was low.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We lost our boy this summer. Missing him still brings me to tears at times though Archie, our puppy, is a great distraction.
